Ovid Therapeutics is seeking a Head of Epilepsy Research with extensive experience in epilepsy and seizure disease models to join our Research and Development team and reporting to the VP of Preclinical Research.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preclinical discovery and development of early-stage small molecule and targeted gene therapy across epilepsy and seizure disorders, incorporating the latest research findings and leveraging cutting-edge technologies and models.  
    • Tactically implement in vivo, in vitro and ex vivo studies to demonstrate efficacy and mechanism of action to support a program's clinical development.
    • Direct and manage existing in-house research, academic collaborations, and cro-based investigation for pipeline programs.
  • Ensure effective interactions and collaborations across the different functional areas that relate discovery and development, including regulatory and clinical development.
    • Continue to explore and identify kols and collaborator to expand capabilities and support of pipeline
  • Manage and develop direct reports and provide strong and thoughtful leadership to cross-functional teams.
    • Ensuring that team members and stakeholders are aware of progress and challenges.
    • Advise regulatory and clinical functions on appropriate paths for development.
  • Represent organization at scientific panels and meetings and through publication work.
    • Drive the publication of preclinical research data in high-quality scientific, technical, or medical journals and meetings.
  • Clearly articulates scientific strategy to management team and organization as a whole
  • Contributes to the preparation of presentations, study reports, and regulatory documents
  • Support business development due-diligence activities for expanding pipeline and platforms
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

    • PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, pharmacology or related discipline with a minimum of 5-10 years of experience in the biotech/biopharmaceutical industry; Leveling will be commensurate with experience.
    • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of epilepsy and seizure disorders including behavioral, electrophysiological, pharmacological and molecular aspects
    • Demonstrated record of scientific leadership as evidenced by publications in top-tier journals
    • Outstanding presentation and communication skills
    • Experienced in managing and developing others.
    • Leader and mentor willing to grow and develop the organization's capabilities
    • Successful demonstration of initiative, teamwork, collaboration, and technical expertise as an independent and creative scientist

    Preferred Skills:

    • Able to support PK/PD, safety and toxicological assessments of lead candidates
    • Knowledge and experience in rare genetic disorders and understanding of RNA modulating technologies
    • Experience in IND filing and support of regulatory documentation
