POSITION SUMMARY

The Simons Foundation is seeking a scientist to assist with the coordination, implementation and monitoring of the Simons Collaboration on the Global Brain (SCGB). This individual will report to the Senior Scientist & Administrative Director for Neuroscience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the monitoring of the scientific content and administration of the SCGB grant portfolio. This includes, but is not limited to, evaluating progress through virtual site visits and progress reports.
  • Manage the SCGB Postdoctoral Programing. This includes, but is not limited to, managing, organizing, attending and evaluating the Regional SCGB Postdoc Meeting Series, now in three locations (New York, Boston and West Coast).
  • Manage the organization of workshops and meetings, including the SCGB Annual Meeting.
  • Assist in the preparation and evaluation of Requests for Applications (RFAs).
  • Help to organize review panels and participate actively in reviews.
  • Give feedback on content for the SCGB website.
  • Assist Neuroscience editor in monitoring journals and the bioRxiv for new SCGB publications, and in monitoring Twitter for relevant information to share with the community.
  • Interact with other programs, scientists and administrative staff at the Simons Foundation.
  • Stay abreast of the fields of research, including attending relevant meetings, conferences and workshops (travel required).



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Ph.D. in neuroscience or related field (preference for computational / theoretical / systems focus)



Experience

  • A broad knowledge of the relevant scientific landscape and background knowledge in systems neuroscience and/or computational neuroscience is desired.
  • Ability to plan and manage complex, long-term projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to clearly communicate science to varied audiences
  • Proactive, collaborative, agreeable and empathic personality
