Job Summary

The individual is responsible for utilizing scientific expertise to support the scale-up, tech transfer and manufacture of early phase mRNA vaccine drug substance and drug product in a GMP facility. They will directly support the manufacturing of clinical trial material and provide ongoing technical support to CTM Operations and Quality. Leads and drives elements of these activities as required. 

Major Responsibilities

  • Leads the execution of strategies, plans, processes and methods to enable mRNA influenza vaccine production and process development, and tech transfers to MS&T
  • Uses critical thinking skills along with a data driven and risk-based approach to solve complex problems and progress deliverables
  • Responsible for using scientific knowledge to support site / global projects
  • Serves as an interface between TD and MS&T/Ops, and represents TD department in cross-functional forums
  • Utilizes extensive knowledge and experience with biopharmaceutical processes (i.e. mRNA, purification) to provide technical leadership for troubleshooting production issues for drug substance and drug product. 
  • Utilizes extensive knowledge and experience authoring and providing technical content for reports, SOPs, Batch records, tech transfer documents and regulatory submissions.
  • Uses scientific and statistical knowledge to provide leadership for product, process, and testing related investigations
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to less experienced colleagues and acts as a technical advisor
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities through project leadership and mentoring.
  • Completes individual training and maintains a state of compliance
  • Adheres to all safety requirements
  • Supports communication/updates as required

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelors or postgraduate degree and /or extensive experience in relevant discipline
  • Minimum 3 years laboratory experience with training in a relevant technical discipline eg. molecular and cellular biology, analytical biochemistry etc
  • Previous experience in a cGMP environment required
  • Knowledge/experience specific to downstream/purification process for tech transfer and implementation in a cGMP environment
  • Knowledge/experience in molecular biology or lipids
  • Experience with lab/pilot scale TFF systems required
  • In depth knowledge of bioprocess unit operations (e.g. TFF and filtration) and engineering scaling principles
  • Must be able to effectively partner with diverse team members from various functions and members at various levels in organization.
  • Must be a self-starter, be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills, technical writing ability, and attention to detail
  • Leadership experience and directing others

Preferred

  • Tech Transfer experience preferred
  • Vaccine development experience preferred
