Century's genetically-engineered, universal iPSC-derived immune effector cell products are designed to specifically target hematologic and solid tumor cancers. Century's foundational technology is built on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) that have unlimited self-renewing capacity. This enables complex cellular engineering to produce controlled cell banks of modified cells that can be expanded and differentiated into desired immune effector cells, which can supply vast amounts of allogeneic, homogeneous therapeutic products. This platform differentiates Century from other approaches that utilize non-renewable donor-derived cells.

Role:

The Research Immunology team is seeking a Scientist to study the properties of our iPSC-derived cell therapy products. The candidate will coordinate with other teams to receive cell material for assessment of fitness and function. They will also conduct research activities aimed to identify novel opportunities for product improvement. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in T cell immunobiology with a record of laboratory team leadership. Direct experience with functional immune assays and multi-color flow cytometry is essential. Experience with cytotoxicity assays and MSD or ELISA is preferred.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a small team to execute experiments designed to characterize the function and fitness of immune cell therapy products
  • Role includes significant laboratory work as well as data analysis and reporting time
  • Laboratory techniques to include tumor killing assays, proliferation assays multi-color flow cytometry, CAR/TCR activation and phenotypic characterization, some transcriptome profiling, and cytokine quantification by immunoassay
  • Analyze and report data in timely manner
  • Perform assay design and optimization
  • Data presentation internally and externally


Qualifications:
  • PhD in Biology or Biomedical Sciences including recent PhD graduates or those with 1-3 years of relevant post-doc or industry experience
  • BS or MS degree in a relevant biological, technical, or engineering field, with 8-12 years of relevant professional experience
  • Strong background in Immunology with expertise in T cell biology


Requirements:
  • Ability to be on site at our Philadelphia location five days a week. Not a remote or work from home position
  • Enthusiasm to lead a small team of highly motivated scientists conducting innovative, fast-paced experiments
  • Expertise in flow cytometry methodologies (surface and intracellular phenotypes, functional phospho-flow and calcium flux, proliferation dye dilution, etc.)
  • Detail-oriented with data-driven problem-solving skills
  • Scientific integrity with a commitment to ethics and scientific rigor
  • Collaborative worker willing to communicate, coordinate and troubleshoot with colleagues
  • Lentivirus production and transduction a plus
  • Experience with CAR cell therapies a plus
  • Experience with cell signaling (phospho-flow, western blot, etc.) and/or transcriptomics (QPCR, Nanostring, RNAseq, etc.) is a plus
