Position Summary:

The company is seeking to recruit an Associate Scientist, Downstream Process Development to join our expanding team. The candidate will report to Scientist II, Downstream Process Development. The scope of the position and requirements are described below.

The Associate Scientist is responsible for downstream process development of monoclonal antibodies. This person utilizes various techniques to purify protein from harvested cell culture fluid. The successful candidate effectively executes experiments, performs data analysis, and clearly communicates the results through presentations and internal reports. This position will contribute to tech transfer and manufacturing oversight of contract development manufacturing organizations (CDMOs). This person will work closely with Upstream Process Development, Process Analytics, and DS Manufacturing teams.

Your Role:

  • Work effectively within the purification team to help design and execute experiments supporting downstream process development, optimization, and characterization with an increasing level of independence. Routine activities include the use of various chromatography techniques, normal and tangential flow filtration, etc.
  • Prepare reagents and buffers
  • Document all work in clearly written and well-organized electronic lab notebooks
  • Author downstream process development study protocols and reports
  • Review study protocols, reports, and manufacturing batch records
  • Contribute to tech transfer and manufacturing oversight of CMOs
  • Analyze and present results in meetings
  • Maintain key lab instrumentation and raw materials and consumables inventory
  • Interact with Upstream Process Development, Process Analytics, and DS Manufacturing teams

Qualifications and Expertise:

  • Associate Scientist: B.S./M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Biology, or other relevant life sciences field with 6+ years of relevant industry experience for B.S. and 4+ years for M.S.
  • Prior experience in a variety of purification processes such as chromatographic separation (affinity, IEX, etc.), depth filtration, tangential flow filtration, impurity clearance, etc. Experience in several of these areas is preferred.
  • Hands on experience using AKTA and Unicorn software (independent method creation is a plus)
  • Working understanding or prior experience in analytical operations such as SEC/HPLC, CE (R/NR), HCP, DNA testing is beneficial, but not required
  • Knowledge of cGMPs, technology transfer, and scaling up bioprocesses
  • Familiarity with statistical design of experiments (DoE) and JMP is a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills is required
