We are currently searching for a Lab Manager to support the objectives of the Cellular Molecular Therapeutics Branch (CMTB) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s (NHLBI). This opportunity is full-time, and it is on site in Bethesda, MD and/or remote work.


Duties & Responsibilities
  • Process and store bone marrow and blood samples, with greater than or equal to 90% cell viability.
  • Perform DNA prep on blood or bone marrow samples.
  • Organize and record data.
  • Create and manage a file which records what samples are collected and where they are stored.
  • Record and track research samples using Biological Specimen Inventory (BSI) system.
  • Print BSI stickers to label sample vials.
  • Coordinate with Clinical Research monitors on biospecimen audit.
  • Develop protocols for laboratory equipment and new techniques.
  • Maintain the equipment through troubleshooting and performing or coordinating maintenance, service, and repair tasks as necessary.
  • Maintain the laboratory in an organized, clean manner; purchase supplies using POTS.
  • Stock supplies, make solutions, dispose of chemical waste, etc.
  • Maintain laboratory records (including ordering, equipment records and data archiving).
  • Maintain a safe operating environment in the laboratory.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to other members of the laboratory using basic techniques such as flow cytometry and quantitative PCR.
  • Provide training to students and other personnel in the use of laboratory equipment and in the performance of specialized procedures, techniques, etc.
  • Ensure that all laboratory skills and training and institute requirements are kept current.
  • Ensure that all members of the laboratory are updated with regard to laboratory safety requirements.
  • Lead onboarding of new members to the laboratory.




  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry or a related discipline
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in animal procedures.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in performing molecular biology procedures past terminal degree.
  • Experience with murine models is preferred but not required.
  • Computer literacy including word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Pays close attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work before/after office hours occasionally when needed.
