Universal Cells , an affiliate of Astellas located in Seattle, WA, is focused on the development and commercialization of stem cell and regenerative medicine therapies. Universal Cells (UCI) is announcing a Scientist I, TME Gene Editing opportunity at their facility in Seattle, WA .
Purpose:
The primary purpose of the Scientist I position is to provide scientific expertise towards gene editing in hematopoietic cells. This position will oversee editing experiments to confer novel, targeted immune functions to our Universal Donor Cell.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Develop and execute strategies for gene-editing in pluripotent stem cells and stem cell-derived hematopoietic cells.
Utilize molecular biology techniques to generate editing constructs.
Perform characterization of edited cells, including phenotyping.
Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and presentations. Regularly present findings at group meetings.
Apply scientific rigor to all aspects of the job, including experimental design, analysis, and interpretation.
Collaborate with colleagues across Universal Cells and other Astellas sites.
Perform other duties as assigned or special projects as needed.
Quantitative Dimensions:
The Scientist I position is integral to achieving our scientific strategy for pre-clinical studies of our edited Universal Donor Cell in collaboration with other Astellas sites.
Potential to generate IP.
Organizational Context:
Reports to Senior Scientist.
Closely collaborates with colleagues within Research & Development at Universal Cells and other Astellas sites.
Qualifications:
Required:
D. in Biology, Immunology, or a related field, with an additional 0-3+ years of relevant post-graduate experience, MS degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, or BS with 8+ years of relevant experience.
In-depth knowledge and experience with gene editing, as demonstrated by strong publication or patent record.
Experience with hematopoietic cell isolation, culture, or differentiation.
Experience with multi-color flow cytometry.
Strong molecular biology skills (e.g. PCR, cloning, etc.).
Demonstrated ability to move a project forward and work in team settings.
Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills with scientific attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with other teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong work ethic with a passion for working in a fast-paced, dynamic and diverse work environment.
Preferred:
Experience with gene editing screens and analysis of larger datasets.
Experience with CRISPR/Cas9-based gene editing.
Familiarity with cancer immunology and tumor microenvironment biology.
Experience with pluripotent stem cells.
