Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a common respiratory virus that affects the lungs and airways and can be serious, especially for infants and older adults.Each year, it is estimated that more than 177,000 older adults are hospitalized and 14,000 of them die in the U.S. due to RSV. For children younger than five years old in the U.S., approximately 2.1 million outpatient visits and 58,000 hospitalizations occur each year. Currently, there is no preventative vaccine and in order to ensure uptake after approval, there is an urgent and significant need to create an understanding of the disease burden, the importance of prevention and planning for how to effectively manage a growing schedule of respiratory disease vaccinations in healthcare settings.


Pfizer’s RSV vaccine is currently in Phase 3 development for the prevention of RSV in Older Adults (60+) and infants via Maternal vaccination and has received FDA Breakthrough Therapy Designation. Given a highly competitive and rapidly evolving landscape, success for each indication will rely on speed to market, robust clinical data and differentiation, strong recommendations, and establishing Pfizer leadership. A US RSV Franchise team is being built and will be preparing for upcoming launches.


The Director, RSV Franchise Market Development Lead will report to the Director, US RSV Franchise & New Products Team Lead and will play a critical leadership role in developing and communicating value propositions for RSV prevention to a broad range of decision makers across channels and lead strategic planning, key partnerships and initiatives in close partnership with s a cross-functional, GLocal team.

The Director, RSV Franchise Market Development Lead will play a critical role and be accountable for building the strategy and implementation of market shaping to positively affect market dynamics, set-up the foundation for introduction of the Older Adult and Maternal vaccines for the prevention of RSV to help quickly increase vaccination rates. While the focus is on the RSV franchise, this role is designed to be broader and ensure a growing adult respiratory vaccine schedule (i.e., Pneumococcal, Covid-19, Flu, RSV) can be effectively implemented based on patient demand, physician willingness and ability to vaccinate, and payer reimbursement to provide full protection from respiratory diseases.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of understanding vaccine market dynamics and key customer insights, developing innovative partnership initiatives with key stakeholders, thriving in complexity and ambiguity, engaging with a complex and critical set of stakeholders, and a desire to lead in a critically important area for Pfizer that will help prevent disease in some of our most vulnerable populations.


KEY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:

  • Ensure clear understanding of primary barriers to RSV vaccination as well as to growing routine schedule of respiratory vaccines, especially in older adults

  • Prioritize opportunities to positively and appropriately shape the markets to support RSV vaccine uptake post-launch that are most likely to result in the greatest change

  • Develop value propositions to engage key customers/channels, stakeholders and other healthcare industry experts to drive uptake that is integrated into patient care workflows

  • Develop strategies and tactical plans to deliver on priority goals, including development of collaboration agreements and/or partnerships as well as additional omni-channel and med-ed initiatives, while balancing the urgency to effect change with the appropriate pacing to best enable the engagement of appropriate partners and collaborators

  • Collaborate and align with the other brand teams, medical and cross-functional colleagues, including global, recognizing interdependencies and ensuring synergies

  • Develop a deep and comprehensive understanding of the marketplace, uncover key insights in close collaboration with BAI and MA colleagues, translating them into actionable strategies and tactics with a focus on what matters most to quickly impact the markets

  • Determine and lead innovative ways of reaching and educating key stakeholders that maximizes engagement and utility to customers

  • Define a vision of success and KPIs for tracking the impact of market development, key milestones and progress

  • Support the annual operating and tactical plan development, focused on market development and medical education, aligning with cross-functional team to develop schedule and investment

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS degree required

  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience, including marketing (US HCP, patient and payer), strategy and new product launches

  • Expertise in specific market development and senior level key stakeholder, customer decision maker engagement

  • Strategic cross-functional leadership and experience in building and maintaining productive and collaborative relationships, even without positional authority

  • Ability to focus in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and support the team through key strategic decisions

  • Strong analytical and strategic skills including the ability to identify and prioritize strategic challenges and balance short term needs with long-term vision

  • Proven record of identifying customer needs, extracting key insights, and translating these into meaningful value propositions and tactics

  • Demonstrated success in independently developing, executing, and measuring cross-channel marketing programs

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide variety of audiences. Detail-oriented and creative

  • Must be mature, self-driven, have exceptional learning agility, and a high degree of comfort with ambiguity and complexity. Track record of pushing boundaries and not accepting the status quo

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree preferred

  • Strong understanding of US vaccines business and market dynamics highly preferred and prior launch experience a plus

  • Experience in building/accelerating previously unexplored or under-penetrated markets across key stakeholders
