I.    JOB SUMMARY 

Sr. Project Manager in the Portfolio/Late-Stage Product Development group will work closely with the product development team and project management leads, clinical and non-clinical technical leads, and team members to proactively manage a complex clinical and non-clinical workstream of a vaccine development program. This position requires collaboration with functional stakeholders, senior management, subcontractors, and external/government/NGO funding agencies to ensure successful completion of project(s). The Senior Project Manager is accountable for maintaining workstream budget, timelines, meeting key requirements and milestones and proactively managing workstream risks & issues through resolution.

•    In support of the Product Development Team and Project Manager Leaders, provide overall leadership in the management of the workstream.
•    Execute on project strategy, priorities and milestones ensuring visibility and accountability. 
•    Engage and negotiate with team members and other functional area representatives to pro-actively identify and resolve risks, facilitate constructive decision-oriented meetings, and resolve impediments to progress. Facilitate discussion and provide guidance/direction on critical project issues.
•    Proactively take charge to help the team resolve unanticipated workstream issues in a measured way, especially in coordinating different functional areas, resources, and timelines. Maintain a risk log.
•    Help coordinate and track activities across multiple preclinical projects and ensure that goals are clear, resource needs are identified, and progress updates are uniformly presented and on time.
•    Drive team member accountability and engagement through production of key meeting outputs, such as management of timelines, meeting agendas and summaries, and ensure that project information is organized and readily accessible.
•    Ensure that projects are delivering to budget in a timely manner, and effectively manage changes to project scope as needed.

•    Collaborate with Product Development Project Manager Lead and workstream team members to generate and maintain workstream plans and timelines. 
•    Develop, defend, and maintain workstream budgets, in collaboration with the Product Development Team Project Manager Lead, Earned Value Management, functional lead, finance and accounting support.
•    Serve as liaison (along with Product Development Team Leader) to external funding partners and subcontractors, when applicable.
•    Regularly interact with management to provide key project updates.
•    Complete Emergent and US Government weekly, monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reporting requirements when applicable
•    Apply project management best practices throughout the evolution of the program: initiation, planning, execution, control and close.
•    Manage project status and ensure escalation and appropriate communication internally to key senior leadership/stakeholders
•    May serve as project manager on proposals for new work.

III. MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS

•    6 or more years of project management or relevant experience in pharmaceutical or vaccine development (specifically clinical) 
•    BS degree in relevant field required, e.g., clinical development, life sciences, project management. Advanced degree preferred.
•    Late-stage product development and regulatory approval experience preferred
•    Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiating, influencing, and active listening.
•    Superior written and verbal communication skills.
•    Superior problem-solving skills.
•    Experience in vaccine or drug development; experience managing programs funded under government or NGO grants and/or contracts is a plus.
•    Direct experience managing drug or vaccine projects or sub-teams through early development – specifically clinical and non-clinical 
•    Knowledge of phase-appropriate approaches to development, manufacturing, testing, quality, and reporting requirements is desired.
•    Fluent with regularly used software applications: MS Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project) and SharePoint/MS Teams.
•    Familiarity with Earned Value Management.
