Computer Systems Analyst

We are currently searching for a Computer Systems Analyst to provide computing and experiment implementation support to research staff for conducting research and performing data processing analyses on various computer systems .  This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve an expert resource by recommending, implementing, and maintaining best practices for programming on-line data collection and data review.
  • Provide performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization across the full range of scientific high-performance computing architecture.
  • Maintain accurate and complete problem tracking and resolution databases.
  • Provide computing support including troubleshooting, answering technical inquiries from users, and procuring new systems.
  • Provide statistical support to staff, including data analysis and the generation tools for researchers to use.
  • Provide software recommendations and solutions across diverse scientific applications, including freeware relevant to analyses of scientific discovery.
  • Support and maintain scientific computer systems including hardware, operating systems, and associated services in a high-performance computing environment.
  • Perform software source-control commits and patches to software projects.
  • Determine needs and provide IT support for computerized systems supporting activities.
  • Utilize knowledge of data structure, data management and various programming language.
  • Manage data formatting input and output.
  • Provide documentation as required and participate in code reviews, planning sessions, and routine status meetings.
  • Specify and configure operating systems to control desired scientific hardware.
  • Maintain system software, hardware configuration, and security, as well as upgrade of the software as necessary to maintain security.
  • Maintain computational infrastructure, including upgrading and configuration of hardware and software systems.
  • Integrate hardware components into coordinated and synchronized operation.
  • Continually improve the computational speed and reliability.
  • Collaborate with staff to increase the productivity/efficiency of data analysis using high-performance computing.
  • Work with data users to define, prioritize and implement metadata standards across systems.
  • Test and maintain software products to ensure strong functionality and optimization.
  • Research new technologies, standards, and systems to improve existing products and websites.
  • Manage a data storage and backup for scientific computers using available resources.
  • Establish and/or maintain local storage and high-speed networks.
  • Maintain back up and archiving systems to avoid loss of research data.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Programming and Data Processing, Mathematics and Computer Science
  • At least 3-4 years of experience
  • Matlab
  • Linux
  • Writing Linux scripts, computer code in C or Python and Psychopy
  • Using image packages such as AFNI, FSL, Freesurfer, and Tortoise.
  • Setting up and using MatLab and MatLab toolboxes such as SPM or CONN.
  • Setup the use of MobaXterm , X2Go client and server, and Filezilla software.
