Job Details

Fate Therapeutics is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Associate Scientist or Senior Research Associate with cell-based assay development expertise to assist in functional characterization of Fate’s next generation iPSC-derived CAR-T cell cancer immunotherapies. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing assays to identify and evaluate functional attributes of Fate’s T cell products.  This individual will operate in a matrixed environment across multiple functional groups in R&D.  The ideal candidates should be self-motivated, have prior research/discovery experience, and enjoy working in a team-based environment. This is a full-time position reporting to a Senior Scientist within the Research department and is located at our corporate headquarters and research facilities in San Diego, California.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize cell-based assays to test and compare lead iPSC-derived T cell candidates.
  • Design and execute method development studies to generate high-quality data by following best practices of assay and instrument operations.
  • Generate critical and supporting data for both novel discovery and established pipeline programs
  • Perform data analysis and communicate scientific data and concepts effectively through presentations, protocols, and reports.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with multiple internal teams and external business partners to meet crucial deadlines.
  • Perform risk assessments, gap assessment for analytical methods, and aim to enhance product efficacy.
  • Support implementation of new platform technologies to increase research capabilities, performing a key role in improving processes and procedures.

Requirements
  • B.S./M.S. in relevant scientific discipline, e.g. immunology, cell biology, biochemistry or molecular biology.  Previous experience with research in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry is recommended, but not required.  Title will be commensurate with level of experience.
  • Experience  developing and troubleshooting cell-based assays for immune cell functional profiling (killing assays, cytokine production, proliferation, and migration) is preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Experience with analytical techniques such as Flow cytometry, ELISA, qPCR, ddPCR, NGS, spectroscopy, cell counting, and other applicable methods are preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with IncuCyte and xCelligence platforms is highly desirable
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced small company environment and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
  • Will require working with cell lines of human origin
  • 100% on-site work at corporate headquarters and research facilities in San Diego, CA
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
