Position

The Director of Discovery Analytical Chemistry is central to our Drug Discovery pipeline.  Reporting to the Vice President, Chemistry, you will establish and build Eikon’s Discovery Analytical function and team.

You’re a lead chromatographer in a pharmaceutical/biotech setting who loves to solve difficult problems and are not discouraged by challenges.  You’re a hands-on project manager who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and is excited about being a foundational member of a rapidly growing team.  You’re well-organized, detail oriented, and take pride in your ability to rapidly analyze situations and judicious decisions.  You’re collaborative by nature with uncompromising integrity.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with chemists, engineers, and biologists, to advance our drug discovery pipeline
  • Be an integral part of Eikon’s growing Discovery and Chemistry teams
  • Build Eikon’s small molecule high throughput purification workflow/processes, including configuring instrumentation and optimizing data handling software
  • Develop novel capabilities and specialty separations, and optimize related chromatographic methods
  • Closely collaborate with automation engineers to design and implement robotics to automate high throughput purification systems
  • Lead Eikon’s growing Discovery Analytical Chemistry team including hiring and mentoring junior analytical chemists
  • Responsible for overseeing routine maintenance and troubleshooting of chromatography and liquid handling instruments, contacting vendors for preventative maintenance and repair, bookkeeping of repair records
  • Contribute to the writing of technical documents (laboratory SOPs and records), patents, scientific manuscripts, etc.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or related field with 8+ years of hands-on experience with LCMS, HPLC, MS/MS, and/or HRMS assay development to purify and characterize small molecules
  • Experience with independently operating and troubleshooting mass spectrometers, relevant software platforms, subsequent data analyses and interpretation
  • Self-motivated with high attention to details, ability to analyze, summarize and present data and significant conclusions to key stakeholders and decision makers
  • Good organizational skills with ability to work in a high paced team environment to meet deadlines and prioritize work on multiple projects
  • Proven success in building and leading high-performing, diverse, and inclusive teams, including goal setting, performance coaching, and professional career development
  • Proven ability to foster collaborative relationships with key stakeholders
  • The ability to communicate clearly and build open collaborative relationships is essential
  • Prior knowledge of the drug discovery/development pipeline is a plus
