We are seeking a Scientist 1 to join our interdisciplinary Consumables Surface Chemistry team. Candidates must have a proven track record of problem solving, experimental design, and data analysis. The position will work collaboratively to help develop and characterize microfluidic surfaces for improved sequencing and expanded functionality. This is an excellent opportunity for fresh graduates and experienced research associates with experience in molecular biology, organic chemistry, surface science, or nanotechnology to learn new skills and apply their talents to a challenging and diverse set of problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Produce surface coatings for a variety of end uses through a variety of techniques
  • Characterize surfaces to determine coating properties
  • Structure surfaces according to proprietary technology
  • Work with scientists to plan and execute experiments
  • Work with scientists to develop meaningful process QCs
  • Collect and analyze data
  • Present and discuss data and results in meetings

EDUCATION, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or related field.
  • 4+ years of bench experience in an academic or industry research setting
  • Experience designing, organizing, and executing complex experiments, collecting data, and interpreting results.
  • Hands-on experience with relevant techniques in some or all the following areas:
    • Bioconjugation chemistry
    • DNA amplification
    • DNA origami
    • Surface characterization and metrology
    • Colloidal and/or polymer chemistry
    • Biochemical assays
    • Molecular Biology
  • Some experience in any of the following areas is a strong plus:
    • Microfluidics
    • Nanofabrication
    • Surface functionalization and passivation
    • Wet organic chemistry
    • Microscopy and biomolecular imaging
    • Next-generation sequencing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Excel, JMP and/or Python for analyzing and plotting data
