ROLE SUMMARY
You will provide senior Worldwide Research Development and Medical (WRDM) leaders with the necessary tools, information and insights to make investment and prioritization decisions that will ultimately maximize the value of the WRDM portfolio (discovery through positive Proof of Concept) while optimally positioning the organization as a whole for long-term sustainable growth and industry leadership in key therapeutic areas (TAs) and indications in collaboration with Portfolio and Decision Analysis (PDA). You will build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues from across Pfizer, establishing clear lines of sight into TA and Research Unit-level plans and investment strategies and on an ongoing basis helping to ensure that Pfizer’s R&D efforts reflect a sharp strategic focus on:
- Optimizing investments in the Pre-POC clinical portfolio,
- Establishing and efficiently executing on strategic portfolio priorities,
- Adapting to external threats and challenges, and
- Meeting or exceeding delivery expectations
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead WRDM Portfolio Prioritization Review (PPR), in partnership with PDA and Finance(including all related planning, analytics, stakeholder management, executive presentations, multi-year impact analysis, real time cross portfolio views, and communications) to allocate funding to the pre-POC clinical portfolio.
- Lead WRDM Pre-POC Challenge Forum (PCF), including being the point of contact for WRDM Leadership Team, setting meeting agenda and drafting minutes/action items.
- Lead WRDM portfolio milestone forecasting, including identifying/tracking potential substrates, incorporating latest program updates in partnership with Research Unit/Partner Line Strategy/Operations Leads and PDA.
- Lead the WRDM Operations responsibilities for year-round portfolio financial and resource management, including evaluating resource flexibility on high spend projects, collaborating effectively with relevant groups
- Manage the optimization of internal (indirect) resources to support the WRDM portfolio, partnering with key resource management focused stakeholders – including the Head of Project Planning, Global Product Development (GPD), Portfolio Management, Finance, Medicinal Science Leadership, and Research Unit leadership
- Lead strategic WRDM portfolio initiatives to maximize R&D productivity and drive R&D innovation, including:
- Design and execute relevant analyses to identify opportunities & build appropriate business cases
- Lead cross-functional teams, including WRDM Leadership Team, Finance, GPD, and PDA
- Shape the strategic narrative of initiatives, and present to executive audiences
- Support associated Business Development activities as needed from a portfolio perspective
- Keep current with competitive trends at the industry level and related to focus areas of the portfolio, particularly in the areas of portfolio management (e.g., portfolio performance metrics, therapeutic area balance)
- Support Pfizer’s diversity and equity efforts, including initiatives within and beyond WRDM Operations
- Strengthen Pfizer’s competitive advantage by attracting and continually developing top talent
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
Must-Have
- PhD in a life sciences discipline and a minimum of 3 years industry experience OR an MBA or MS in a life sciences discipline and a minimum of 5 years of related experience
- Detailed understanding of risks, opportunities and value drivers in drug discovery and development.
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated Excel modeling skills.
- Proven project management skills in a matrix organization.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
Nice-to-Have
- Strong understanding of Pfizer WRDM’s structure, objectives and processes
- Strong understanding of Pfizer resourcing and financial forecasting tools (e.g., RAPID).
