The Chemical Conjugation Group in the Platform Engineering Department at Amgen is seeking a highly motivated scientist in the field of protein chemistry to join us in the state-of-the-art research facility at the Amgen headquarters campus located in Thousand Oaks, CA. The qualified candidate will work at the interface of biochemistry, cell/molecular biology and chemical biology, and apply their skills in multi-disciplinary research projects developing new hybrid therapeutics and innovative novel modalities.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:- Purification and characterization of therapeutic antibodies and recombinant proteins
- Developing purification and characterization methods for novel hybrid molecules including bioconjugates such as ADCs, protein-protein/peptide conjugates, and other hybrid modalities for potential clinical drug development.
- Design, engineering, and preparing protein conjugates and other large molecule therapeutics using chemical, enzymatic and recombinant techniques
- The Scientist will work independently and in teams to develop novel hybrid modalities and establish new conjugation platforms
- The Scientist will review, analyze, and interpret scientific data and results; provide regular updates and documentation, and present results in internal and external forums; collaborating with other scientists and keep current with field of expertise, including literature and technology development.

Basic qualifications- Doctorate degree OR
- Masters degree and 5 years of laboratory experience OR
- Bachelors degree and 6 years of laboratory experience
- PhD in Biochemistry, chemical biology, molecular biology, chemistry or a related field
- A track record of scientific accomplishments (e.g., peer-reviewed publications and patents)
- Strong background in antibody and protein purification techniques such as affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatography methods and HPLC/FPLC systems, formulations and re-folding
- Experience in protein analytics such as gel electrophoresis, concentration measurements, IEX, SEC, LC-MS etc.
- Experience in protein labeling, enzymatic digestion and chemical conjugation
- Experience in designing, cloning and expression of antibodies and recombinant proteins (mammalian and bacterial)
- Knowledge of biological and biophysical assays
- Background in protein/antibody engineering fields such as structural or computational biology, display libraries and other screening/selection technologies is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work comfortably within a large team of scientists and engineers with diverse technical and cultural backgrounds in a highly dynamic and collaborative environment
