We are looking for a motivated and energetic candidate to join the Transgenic Group in Redwood City. The Transgenic Group is focused on providing comprehensive expertise in genetically modified animal development for the larger company as part of a highly interactive environment with close collaborations, including with drug discovery, veterinary sciences and our biotherapeutics organization.

The candidate will be responsible for leading a team to support screening, analytical, and phenotypic characterization of genetically engineered models developed to support both preclinical programs and therapeutic antibody discovery. Following analytical characterization, the candidate will collaborate to execute phenotypic characterization of new models where appropriate. The candidate will also oversee external assay setup and database administration for existing strains. Lastly, the candidate will have the opportunity to design new genetic models through collaborations both internally and externally.

The Candidate should have experience with designing and executing in vitro molecular biology assays to screen for transgenic, gene edited, and gene targeted identification of genetic models such as electrophoresis, qPCR, ddPCR. Experience with gene expression assays such as RT-PCR, qPCR, ddPCR or similar is required. Experience with next gen sequencing is preferred as the candidate will lead efforts to integrate these applications to empower our existing screening platform such as NGS and long-range sequencing. Experience with cell staining assays, such as flow cytometry and FACS, or bioanalytical assays, such as SPR, is desired.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field plus 7-10 years of relevant technical experience or MS/PhD with 2-5 years of industry or relevant experience.
  • Strong molecular biology skills are required.
  • Experience with screening or validation of genetically modified in vivo models or cell lines is a must.
  • Experience with genotyping and designing genotyping strategies is required.
  • Familiarity with quantitative assays, such as qPCR and ddPCR is essential.
  • Knowledge of colony management is a plus.
  • Experience with next gen sequencing workflows, working with CRISPR constructs, colony management, and other aspects of generation of genetically engineered models is preferred.
  • Understanding of the genetic basis of adaptive immunology is a plus.
