Summary of the Position

(Senior) Enterprise Strategy Director is a highly visible role responsible for leading the Executive and Global Leadership Teams in the collaborative development of USP’s overall strategy.  This individual ensures the organization has used fact-based analysis to set, communicate, and make the choices essential to achieving its mission priorities. He or she helps identify, establish and refresh the logical basis for the central strategic choices facing the organization around issues of organizational public health impact, and sustainability (revenue and cost).

In addition to support of these activities, he or she may work with the CEO and Executive Team, broader Strategy division, and key global leadership in the organization to support the application of USP’s Strategy to specific program units, regions and other performance cells.    

This individual will be expected to work in close collaboration with the members of the executive team.  Work will be done in collaboration with highest levels in the organization and involve working directly with senior leaders across multiple functions and programs in support of the Enterprise’s goals, strategies and plans, and, ultimately, the successful execution of those plans.  

Roles and Responsibilities

• Develops and refines both long term and annual strategic positions for the organization, in consultation with the CEO, SVP and VP of strategy, full Executive Team, and leaders of major program, site and operational functions

• Works on identifying, framing, and analyzing the highest priority challenges facing the organization as it seeks to achieve its mission and strategy

• Ensures rigorous and high quality research, analysis, and synthesis of major strategic issues facing the Enterprise (competitive position, strategic advantages and weaknesses, growth opportunities and threats, operational and organization alignment to achieve these goals)

• Leads “deep dive projects” in areas of high strategic priority

• Provides thought leadership and creative insights to help identify, clarify, and resolve complex issues critical to organization’s strategic and operational success.

• Facilitate alignment of leadership (ET and GLT) around priorities and critical actions for the organization to take to achieve its Strategy

• Collaborates with departments and project teams across organization

• Captures and shares knowledge and lessons learned from projects and other initiatives with appropriate audience(s). Creates documentation to preserve information, experiential data, and knowledge relevant to future projects.

Basic Qualifications

Director:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required with 10 year experience, or Master’s degree in a related field required with 8 years experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.   

• Three years of experience working in a top tier strategic consulting firm required handling complex projects independently. 

 

Senior Director:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required with 12 year experience, or Master’s degree in a related field required with 10 years experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.   

• Three years of experience working in a top tier strategic consulting firm required handling complex projects independently. 

Preferred Qualifications

• At least two to three years of operational experience desirable. 

• Distinctive research, analytical and conceptual skills 

• Executive (C-suite) level communications and facilitation 

• Highly effective interpersonal and collaborative style, including an ability to work highly effectively within a matrix organization, with quality engagement and thought partnership across the organization and with all executive levels.  

• Mastery of management consulting fundamentals including: problem definition and scoping, problem solving, insight gathering, research/benchmarking and analytics 

• Strong understanding of business process improvement, project management, business requirement gathering techniques and change management approaches and principles

• Ability to work highly effectively within a matrix organization, with quality engagement and thought partnership across the organization and with all executive levels.  

• Ability to rapidly develop understanding, structure, analyze, synthesize, and communicate on novel and complex topics

• Ability to deliver significant business results that reflects strategic and creative thinking, problem solving, individual initiative

• Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and facilitate meetings and workgroups

• Viewed as a credible thought partner and expert in his/her field

• Ability to clearly communicate business solutions and the value of those solutions to the client; both in written executive summary form and through platform presentations

• Outstanding written and oral communication skills

• Comfortable with ambiguity 

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft software 

• Project management and planning capabilities
