We are seeking a motivated and experienced Vivarium Operations Manager to join our fast-paced team.  You will be working on a team that manages our largest vivarium on campus, supports our research efforts while maintaining the highest quality animal care and oversee our cage wash area that includes clean/dirty robotics.

In this role, a typical day may include:

  • Oversees daily operations of the Conventional Research Vivarium space and Cage Wash space

  •  Manages Associate Manager, Supervisor of conventional operations and Supervisor of cage wash operations

  •  Mentors junior staff as well as research staff on specific projects

  • Provides support to Sr. Management on research and vivarium projects. Reviews IACUC protocols at the discretion of the AV, authors/revises SOP’s

  • Oversees/schedules projects in the vivarium while collaborating with facilities, research staff, and outside contractors

  • Vivarium walk-thru with Sr. Management, Associate Managers, and Supervisors on a regular basis to ensure program compliance

  • Mentors Associate Managers and Supervisors

  • Member of the Controlled Substance team, orders compounds, fills requests, signs compounds in/out twice daily, maintains records to QA standards/NYS and Federal Regulations, and disposes of expired/unused controlled substances

  • Take part in facility inspections (IACUC, AAALACi, USDA, NYDOH, etc.)

  • Liaison between internal teams such as vivarium operations, research staff, facilities, etc. with good written/oral communication skills

  • Recruit new staff, mentors and builds up teams, performs annual reviews of direct reports with input on indirect reports

  • Are interested in overseeing/part of internal facility renovations and special projects.

  • Enjoy challenges, problem solving

To be considered for this role you must have a Bachelors degree in Vet Technology (or related field) and 8-10 years of experience in animal care management.

AALAS certification at the LATG level is required and CMAR is helpful (LATG is required after first year of employment)

Work Environment: Position requires working closely with animals. Some noises may be associated with this position. Ability to lift 50 pounds required.

Weekend and Holidays: This position is deemed essential personnel. Weekend and Holiday work may be required as well as scheduled on-call.

This position will require the individual to pass a physical before beginning employment.
