Job Details

The Cardiovascular Research subgroup that conducts studies in the area of coagulation factor disorders requires a highly motivated and versatile individual capable of performing two critical roles: In vitro techniques including cell culture, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, ELISAs, immunoassays, enzymatic assays, platelet activation and aggregation and 2) In vivo or Ex vivo duties ranging from blood draws to small animal microscopic surgeries to conducting bleeding and thrombosis challenge models in mice. These methodologies/protocols have already been developed and approved, so an individual with experience conducting in vitro assays and are proficient with performing procedures in Ex vivo assays is highly desired.

As a Research Associate on the Cardiovascular team, a typical day might include:

  • Proactively plan, initiate and complete the following types of in vitro assays: Cell based assays, Enzymatic/activity assays, ELISAs, Western blotting, immunoassays, functional bioassays related coagulation factors and platelet activation and aggregation studies
  • Capable of learning new methods and/or technologies relevant to the projects
  • Proficiency with in vivo operations: Animals handling, anesthesia, drug dosing, tissue and plasma collections. Trainable to support in vivo bleeding and thrombosis studies

To be considered for this opportunity, you must have a bachelor’s or master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Immunology related fields with 1-2 years of lab experience. Basic understanding and knowledge of cardiovascular biology with an emphasis on coagulation, thrombosis and hemostasis. Experience with cell culture (includes cell transfection), IHC, Western blotting, immunoassays and enzyme activity assays. Experience working with blood samples (including plasma and platelets). Basic knowledge of and hands-on experience with rodent models of thrombosis and hemostasis; 0-2 years of experience using techniques to induce thrombosis in rodents (preferred). Familiarity with sample collection (blood and tissue) and trainable to support in administration of compounds (via s.c/i.p/i.v routes) in animals. Computer skills such as experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad Prism.
