Director - Clinical Biomarkers, Disease Area Lead

The use of Biomarkers and Diagnostics is central to understanding how our therapeutics work and identifying patients that benefit most from these therapies. Accordingly, the Clinical Biomarkers & Diagnostics function has a critical role in advancing our drug development programs and is accountable for the development of biomarker strategy across our pipeline. Integral to the ongoing success of Amgens Oncology pipeline, the clinical biomarker team is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive biomarker strategies for each program and disease area by applying powerful, innovative technologies to advance science in support of Amgens mission.

Lets do this. Lets change the world. In this vital role you will successfully partner with cross-functional stakeholders to drive biomarker innovation at the product and disease-area portfolio level. The position will lead the Clinical Biomarkers & Dx Team responsible for one or more programs and/or functional initiatives within a disease area and is accountable for the delivery of robust translational biomarker strategies to deliver biomarker evidence including patient stratification/selection, pharmacodynamics, mechanism of action, etc. In addition, the successful candidate will develop a team of global biomarker leads and provide strategic oversight of clinical biomarker strategy and any needed observational and/or platform biomarker studies across a disease area/indication.

Basic qualifications

Doctorate degree (PhD and/or MD) and 4 years industry experience in clinical biomarker development

Or

Masters degree and 7 years industry experience in clinical biomarker development

Or

Bachelors degree and 9 years industry experience in clinical biomarker development

Preferred qualifications
  • Doctorate degree (PhD and/or MD) with 8+ years industry experience developing biomarker strategies in a clinical development setting and/or in preclinical biomarker discovery/validation
  • Knowledge and translational biomarker development experience in relevant disease area
  • Clinical development experience working with cross-functional teams conducting clinical trials
  • Independent leadership of multiple projects
  • Experience developing program-based strategies for pharmacodynamic, predictive, and exploratory biomarkers
  • Experience implementing a broad array of biomarker platforms and technologies to support clinical stage programs
  • Thorough understanding of industry trends, including clinical and commercial aspects of biomarker development
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and implement biomarker studies and collaborations with academic laboratories/KOLs
  • Experience in biomarker assay development and qualification, analysis of clinical samples, and leading biomarker assay outsourcing processes with external vendors and CROs
  • Experience leading direct reports and matrix management of staff through team leadership
  • Experience working effectively in a globally dispersed team environment with cross-cultural partners
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience drafting technical reports and biomarker publications, and interpreting and communicating biomarker results to cross-functional teams and R&D leadership
