SCIENTIST, ANALYTICAL SCIENCES & TECHNOLOGY

 

Emergent BioSolutions is currently seeking a Scientist for our Analytical Sciences and Technology Department. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Immunology, Biochemistry or in another closely related scientific discipline with at least 6 years of relevant experience, an MS with a minimum of 4 years of experience or a Ph.D. with a minimum of 2 years of experience. Must possess skills and knowledge with a field such as cellular, immunological, molecular, bioanalytical and chemical test methods. In addition, this individual will possess a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence and innovation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

 

The main focus of the Scientist will be to support analytical method transfers and phase appropriate validation associated with manufacturing processes planned for implementation at the Baltimore site. 

The activities include supporting technology transfer information flow and supplies for analytical methods into QC and training of QC analysts.  As subject matter experts, the Scientist also will optimization and troubleshoot analytical methods implemented at the Baltimore Bayview site and assist with developing and then maintaining analytical methods and instruments in a cGMP compliant state throughout their lifecycle.

The Scientist will also participate in the development of internal and external (contract) analytical methods to support new platforms and technologies as needed. 

Additional activities include statistical analysis of tech transfer data and assay performance data, performing root cause analysis, and ensuring compliance with current regulatory expectations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Conduct analytical method transfer, optimization, verification, and validation including collecting, analyzing and interpreting data, co-authoring protocols and reports.
  • Work directly in the laboratory to establish analytical methods
  • Demonstrate strong technical writing skills.
  • Participating in analytical method investigations.
  • Provide scientific review of protocols, reports, study designs, SOPs and test methods.
  • Assist in the design, development, execution, statistical analysis of validation protocols and reports for analytical, bioanalytical, and compendial methods used for the analysis of biological products and process impurities.
  • Collaborate with other functions on a technical level for various projects including but not limited to Quality Control and Manufacturing Sciences & Technology.
  • Participate in activities such as process transfer, statistical process control, process technical evaluations, process quality improvements (PAT), and site technology infrastructure improvements.
  • Support quality systems such as change controls and deviations
  • Communicate, support, and meet corporate and site goals and objectives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships within the group, crossfunctionally and with site leads.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Immunology, Biochemistry, or closely related scientific discipline with at least 6 years of relevant experience, MS with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or Ph.D. with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Must possess skills and knowledge within a field such as cellular, immunological, molecular, bioanalytical and chemical test methods; for example, ELISA, qPCR, IEF, viral assays, cell-based assays, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot, microbiological methods, sterility testing, endotoxin testing, HPLC with multiple modes of detection, CE, and UV and IR spectroscopy.
  • Knowledge of cGMPs, safety and data integrity.
  • Experience in some of the following: assay method development, optimization, validation, equipment validation, and analytical investigation for biotherapeutic and vaccine products.
