Job Details

Company Description

Eikon Therapeutics is a new biopharmaceutical company employing revolutionary technology at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, computation, and biology to discover novel treatments for life-threatening diseases. Eikon’s discovery platform is built on groundbreaking innovations from its founders (Nobel Prize, 2014), culminating in the creation of microscopes which enable real-time, molecular-resolution measurements of protein movement in living cells, thereby unlocking otherwise intractable classes of proteins as drug targets.

The parallel development of custom software solutions commensurate with the groundbreaking nature of this discovery platform, to enable the collection, analysis, and understanding of the large, high-content datasets that these microscopes produce, is key to Eikon’s mission of discovering new life-saving drugs.

About You

The Associate General Counsel and Head of IP (AGC) will be an integral part of Eikon’s growing legal team and will have responsibility for multiple areas, including by working with our research and engineering teams to identify new inventions and working with inside and outside counsel to prepare, file, prosecute and maintain patents claiming inventions of value to the Company.  The AGC will be responsible for establishing relationships with outside law firms to help with the development of the Company’s IP portfolio.  At the right time, the AGC will also play important roles in deciding when, where and how to enforce the Company’s IP and to provide advice to the Company’s management team on the in-licensing of IP from third parties.  The AGC will be an important partner to the company’s business development team to ensure that in a variety of transactions the right intellectual property is captured and to assist in the due diligence process.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with the GC on the hiring and supervision of legal department staff and lead the hiring of staff for the IP Department
  • Develop the company’s strategy and practices as it relates to the protection of intellectual property rights in relation to inventions
  • Draft, review and support the filing of patent applications and other intellectual property rights
  • Help to select, work with and manage outside counsel
  • Collaborate with and provide advice to colleagues and leaders across the Company

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor and active bar admission
  • 10-12 years of relevant experience in performing IP legal services in or for companies in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
  • Demonstrated abilities to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with leadership, scientists and G&A colleagues
  • Excellent project management and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work and make decisions independently

Eikon is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and will consider all qualified applicants for employment.

In accordance with the Company’s duty to provide and maintain a safe workplace, the Company requires all employees to be Fully Vaccinated with one of the FDA approved COVID-19 vaccines, which includes those vaccines that have received the FDA’s emergency use authorization.  You will be expected to be Fully Vaccinated as of your Start Date.  If you believe that you are exempt from this requirement under an applicable law or regulations, including Americans with Disabilities Act and California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act, you will need to contact the Company’s Human Resources group. For purposes of this section, Fully Vaccinated means (i) the completion of the vaccination regimen as approved by the FDA (by way of example, 2 doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and 1 dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine), and (ii) timely receiving booster vaccination, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
