About the role

Sana Biotechnology is growing, and we are hiring new team members who believe in the potential of engineered cells as medicines, who want to challenge status quo, and who lead with the desire to work on novel ideas. As a Group Lead, Pluripotent Stem Cell (PSC) Process Development, you will report to the Head of PSC Process Development to lead the development of PSC-derived differentiation manufacturing processes. You will collaborate with Research, Analytical/Process Development, Manufacturing and Quality, Supply Chain, Regulatory to meet program milestones. You will be part of a diverse team developing cell therapy manufacturing technologies to bring allogeneic PSC-derived therapies into clinical trials.

What you'll do

  • Lead the development of innovative, scalable differentiation processes used for manufacturing of Sana's PSC cell therapy pipeline, including cardiomyocytes, glial progenitor cells, pancreatic islet cells.
  • Lead tech transfer to our manufacturing sites and provide training for GMP production
  • Collaborate with PSC development programs and advise on CMC considerations
  • Create technical development plans tied to tangible and time-bound deliverables
  • Lead a PSC process development team
  • Contribute to crucial conversations by providing and receiving feedback supporting the development of team members
  • Engage colleagues across diverse teams while prioritizing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
  • Promote curiosity and scientific rigor within a fast-paced performance-driven environment
  • Assess talent to help Sana grow and add to our culture

What we're looking for

  • PhD in scientific discipline w 8+ yrs experience in academic research and/or industry. BA or MS plus 10+ yrs or equivalent combination of education and work experience; Deep subject matter expertise and a leader in a field through publication and reputation.
  • Deep knowledge of advanced scientific principles, practices of process and product development, and of the latest technologies in PSC process development
  • Track-record of technical excellence in PSC cell therapy field and CMC product development
  • Experience managing multiple direct reports
  • Understanding of the regulatory guidelines and working experience in the GMP environment
  • Ability to communicate across all levels of an organization and coordinate activities with both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing business conditions
  • Track record in attracting and developing talent

What you should know

  • Working safely in person on a predictable and regular in-person basis is an essential job function for this position, and the Company requires that all individuals working in-person be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including receipt of a vaccine booster shot if recommended by the CDC.
  • Occasional weekend work and travel are required.
