About Scientist, Innate Immunity – Waltham, MA

The Alloy team is looking for a Scientist to join our team in Waltham, Massachusetts. The position will report directly to our Senior Director of Translational Immunology and work with our Discovery Services team to support the discovery and functional characterization of antibody-based therapeutics, effector cell engagers and chimeric receptors. You will be using the latest in cell-based functional assays to develop screening methods for molecules characterized by the best functionality and potency with the ultimate goal of helping others to make better medicines.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize cell-based activity assays for primary and engineered human innate immune cells (Macrophages, Dendritic cells, NK cells, etc.)
  • Utilize multiple analytical and molecular techniques to understand the dynamics and response of innate immune cells to antibody-based therapeutics
  • Engineer innate immune cells using viral vectors or other transduction & transfection approaches
  • Effectively collaborate within Alloy’s team and with external partners to develop study design and obtain test materials and reagents
  • Contribute to study design, execution, and data analysis
  • Compile and present data to functional teams
  • Be generous when others are needy, greedy or fearful

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • PhD with 0-2+ years’ experience or MS with 2-5+ years’ experience in immunology, cell biology or related discipline
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture; isolation, handling, and characterization of primary human immune cells
  • Experience with standard immunological assays (e.g. activation markers, cytokine release, cell killing; flow cytometry, MSD/Luminex and other methods)
  • Competency in basic molecular biology techniques, including cell line engineering
  • Working knowledge of various software (e.g. FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, FACSDiva, Geneious)
  • A sense of urgency, speed and persistence
