AbbVie’s Information Research (IR) group has a mission to unlock information that makes cures possible.  Within IR, the AbbVie Library Information Science (LIS) team builds tools and provides services that help AbbVie scientists interact with, manage, and consume knowledge from scientific literature to foster innovation in drug discovery and development.  LIS is a global organization, with a large presence in the Lake County headquarter as well as other research sites across the United States and Germany.

The Library Systems Project Manager will be part of the Library Solution Engineering (LSE) team in LIS. LSE's core responsibility is to ensure findability of & access to scientific information resources and to build or license software for effective & efficient scientific knowledge extraction and management.

We are looking for an experienced technical project manager who will primarily manage and support the semantic software landscape at Abbvie, which is integrated with several critical literature and data processing workflows, engaging with internal peers, clients, and vendors to ensure requirements are captured, communicated, and implemented. For a set of other applications managed by the team, the role ensures proper installation and maintenance, that the systems are monitored, and documentation is managed per AbbVie software lifecycle standards.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manages and supports the life cycle of Library systems, with a focus on semantic metadata management and processing tools, including requirements gathering and clarification, implementation, integration, testing, deployment, and troubleshooting

  • Performs system administration and configuration tasks, e.g. user / permission management, data loading and publishing, supporting our FAIR team in the semantic tools we use

  • Serves as a liaison and builds a community between the Library, the AbbVie IT organizations, LIS clients and external system vendors to provide technical solutions to drive customer satisfaction and maintain compliance with AbbVie's IT processes

  • Provides technical advice concerning APIs available through AbbVie-licensed software and platforms, leveraging vendor support & documentation

  • Plans projects in the library organization and leads small teams of business and IT staff, ensuring timely delivery of requirements, within budget, aligned with stakeholders across the larger organization.

  • Provides support for Library systems and services to both end-users as well as Library staff, coordinating second-level support, managing issues with third parties, and following through on successful resolution 

  • Coordinates, documents, and manages the integrations, dependencies, and data flows between various Library systems as well as with auxiliary systems

  • Provides technical expertise in the evaluation and selection of appropriate software, services, and other technologies related to information organization and access
