OPPORTUNITY
Mammoth is seeking a Scientist I with protein modeling and bioinformatic/data science experience to contribute to protein engineering efforts in  its growing Discovery team. The Discovery team is responsible for developing novel CRISPR-associated (Cas) nucleases for genome editing applications. 
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for generating molecular protein-nucleic acid models and using bioinformatics and machine learning approaches to contribute to protein engineering efforts. The candidate will also be responsible for building analysis and visualization tools for large screening datasets. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Generate protein-nucleic acid structural models and use machine learning approaches to inform enzyme organization efforts
  • Develop data analysis and visualization tools for protein engineering campaigns
  • Design tools to support HTP molecular biology efforts for protein engineering campaigns
  • Analyze NGS datasets
  • Provide regular updates at internal meetings

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline +5 years industry experience, M.S. +3 years, or PhD
  • Expertise using protein modeling and structural analysis software applications (Rosetta, RoseTTAFold, AlphaFold, etc.) 
  • Expertise in analyzing large datasets and applying machine learning approaches to protein engineering
  • Computer and scripting skills (Python, Benchling, Geneious, JMP, SQL, R)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Hands-on experience in the following areas: molecular biology (PCR, DNA/RNA purification and quantitation); biochemical and cell-based assays; CRISPR gene editing in mammalian cells
  • Previous microbial protein production experience using FPLC systems (Eg. Cytiva AKTA, BioRad NGC)

TEAM
Our small-size proteins, such as Cas14 and CasPhi, are poised to transform disease treatment enabling novel editing approaches and delivery options that are difficult to achieve or not even possible with previously described CRISPR-Cas systems. Our teams are responsible for discovering and engineering novel CRISPR systems, establishing CRISPR-based diagnostics, and translating our unique CRISPR technology into therapeutic treatments with the ultimate goal of cures for indications with high medical need.
