About the role

Sana Biotechnology is growing, and we are hiring new team members who believe in the potential of engineered cells as medicines, who want to challenge status quo, and who lead with the desire to work on novel ideas. As a Senior Scientist, Gene Editing & Genomics, you will report to the Cardiac Biology Senior Director. You will focus on using a variety of molecular approaches to develop cutting-edge stem cell therapy technology for heart regeneration.

What you’ll do

  • Lead gene editing efforts for the cardiometabolic cell therapy team by independently designing and directly performing experiments, while demonstrating scientific creativity, and collaboration with teammates
  • Perform genome-wide characterizations and contribute to bioinformatics analyses
  • Lead from the bench performing experiments daily
  • Contribute to potential inventions, patent applications, products and solving challenges related to gene editing and cell therapy
  • Liaison to development function and executive leadership regarding project deliverables
  • Be an in-house or outside scientific advisor and create strategic partnerships that lead to collaborations

What we’re looking for

  • Ph.D. in scientific discipline w 5+ yrs experience in academic research or industry. BA or MS plus 8+ yrs or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Advanced experience with CRISPR-Cas9, or similar, methods for targeted gene editing
  • Experience with molecular cloning, transfection, and transduction techniques
  • Expertise in nucleic acid and protein expression analyses using mammalian cultured cells and tissues
  • Immunostaining and microscopy experience (bright field and fluorescence)
  • Experience with bulk and single cell sequencing (including sample preparation and informatic analyses)
  • Exhibit excellent data recording practices

What will separate you from the crowd

  • Experience with bioinformatic analysis tools such as Loupe Browser, Cell Ranger, Seurat, KEGG, and Gene Ontology
  • Experience with statistics software that can handle large datasets like Spotfire, JMP and Prism
  • Code and program experience using R
  • Familiarity with pluripotent stem cell culture
  • Working knowledge of cardiac biology and/or developmental biology

What you should know

  • Evening and weekend work required on an as-needed basis
  • Travel between Seattle and the company’s Cambridge and South San Francisco sites will be necessary
  • Carrying, handling and reaching for objects up to 25 lbs
  • Prolonged standing and/or sitting
  • Exposure to hazardous/toxic/dangerous chemicals
  • Manual dexterity required to operate office and lab equipment
  • Working safely in person on a predictable and regular in-person basis is an essential job function for this position, and the Company requires that all individuals working in-person be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including receipt of a vaccine booster shot if recommended by the CDC
