The Opportunity
The heart of insitro’s strategy is the development of novel, ground breaking methods in machine learning and high-throughput science to address key bottlenecks in the drug development pipeline.

We are seeking an Associate Director, Cell Culture Process Development, to join a team of scientists and automation engineers focused on developing and optimizing mammalian cell culture processes to run on insitro’s high throughput automation platform. By collaborating with biologists, process engineers and machine learning data scientists, you will focus on a robust cell expansion and iPSC differentiation process that will be a key component of our lab platform to generate high quality data for disease modeling and drug discovery. You will provide a systematic approach to develop and transfer robust cell culture processes to our automation platform ensuring scalability, sustainability and reliability. As a part of this team, you will assess the efficiency and quality of operations and provide support for continued optimization. Additionally, this role provides mentorship to other team members, and shares knowledge and cell process development standard methodologies including design of experiments along with process optimization and control.

About You
- PhD in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Cell Biology, or related field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience or a Master's with a minimum of 10 years of experience or a Bachelor's with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience within a cell culture role and an excellent understanding of the theory and practice of cell culture process development
- Experience with using design of experiments (DOE) software to guide process development
- Experience defining critical process parameters and control strategies
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment
- Experience in executing projects with ambitious timelines with the ability to adapt to rapid changes in project priorities.
- Expertise in gathering/creating user requirements process diagrams, system requirements, technical specifications and engineering drawings
- Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience managing cross functional teams and initiatives.
- Leadership experience managing a team either directly or as a matrix team lead


Nice to Have
- Experience with iPSC cell culture and differentiation
- Experience with automated high-throughput workflow and integrating automation systems with LIMS
- Expertise with Python, C#, or a similar programming language
