The Role:

Moderna is seeking a Manufacturing Associate II for a position in Technical Development High Throughput (TDHT) Production Operations, at the Moderna manufacturing site in Norwood, MA. The individual in this role will independently run a unit operation using standard operating procedures. His/her prior lab experience and dedication to manufacturing using thorough lab practices sets this operator apart from Manufacturing Associate. In addition to manufacturing, the Manufacturing Associate II, will troubleshoot common problems, and escalate as needed for issues experienced outside his/her scope while manufacturing. He/she is also expected to have a strong understanding of the process steps completed daily and derive process improvements from that understanding and general lab experience.

It is expected that the Manufacturing Associate II has a team mentality, and respects the common work areas. He/she helps to maintain the cleanliness, and 5S initiatives put into place in the lab in common areas as well as unit assigned areas. He/she values the safety of his workspace and those that work around him/her and work to maintain a safe work environment.

A distinguishing attribute of the Manufacturing Associate II is that he/she leads by example. His/her experience in the lab, allows for repeated successful production/manufacturing of daily batches. Efficient pacing of his/her day demonstrates the time management skills necessary to pursue investigational projects and/or handle additional responsibilities such as leading initiatives (5S, Veeva, Waste/Safety Liason - etc). These projects/responsibilities will require that the Manufacturing Associate II will work with outside groups (IR/IX etc), and at some point, communicate with the team; either the outcome of a project, or updates representing the team in a larger group.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to quickly master new processes and the drive to be part of a dynamic, fast paced, and highly motivated team.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Lead by example by thoroughly completing manufacturing processes.

  • Contribute during team meetings

  • Take on TDHT Production Operations site representation responsibility, and/or lead optimization projects

  • Follow written procedures to manufacture DNA/RNA/LNP.

  • Efficiently complete the day-to-day manufacturing processes.

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the science that drives the process he/she is running.

  • Maintain a cleanly and safe lab space; properly label buffer bottles, discard of waste in appropriate waste streams, restock workstations, cleans up after him/herself.

  • Communicate with management as needed when encountering issues during manufacturing.

  • Utilize process knowledge to identify manufacturing issues that could be optimized and/or improved.

  • Adhere to laboratory gowning procedures.

  • Adhere to documented waste handling procedures to respect environmental regulations

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • Requires BS in a relevant science or engineering discipline, or a minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a biotechnology manufacturing/quality/development environment.

  • Experience operating instrumentation and integrated systems

  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Requires hands-on lab work

  • Motivation to learn

  • Value of scientific reasoning and respect of process; complete work thoroughly, track raw materials etc.

  • Team mentality; trustworthy, helpful to others, and celebrate the success of others
