Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend In-Life pre-study and pre-necropsy meetings for awareness of study related issues including supplies, test article and reagents required for each study.
  • Oversee operation of all In-Life group laboratory equipment including freezers, refrigerators, pH meters, centrifuges, water baths, etc. 
  • Perform minor general maintenance of fixed assets including equipment, furniture and fixtures. 
  • Ensure all refrigerator/freezer alarms and alarm notification systems are maintained and functioning properly including documentation of regular testing. 
  • Responsible for all courier and shipping activities including setting up pickups/drop-offs, meeting couriers, working with the In-Life group and Inotiv colleagues to coordinate these activities.  Prepare shipping labels and ship packages containing biological samples, hazardous materials, residual samples and test articles. 
  • Complete IATA hazardous material shipment training
  • Responsible for ordering In-Life group research supplies, equipment, reagents, commercial chemicals etc.  
  • Receive incoming supplies, verify against packing slips and store test articles and reagents following study protocols or manufacturer’s directions.
  • Responsible for the disposition of dose formulations, vehicles, test article powders etc following study protocols and in collaboration with the Operations Manager, Formulation Scientist and In-Life Manager.
  • Develop and maintain calibration logs for laboratory equipment including pH meters, pipettes, balances, check weights etc.
  • Generate all required documentation for the purchase of all capital equipment including quotes from vendors, internal approval documents and placement of all orders.
  • Maintain Asset list including additions and removals.
  • Manage the inventory and safekeeping of laboratory chemicals and reagents and the disposal of research chemicals and hazardous waste. Discard samples in accordance with established policies and study protocols.
  • Responsible for maintenance of all visitor logs, sign off forms and other activities following Company Visitor policies.
  • Initiate and participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Demonstrate Inotiv Core Values.
  • Follow SOPs and other applicable laboratory or company procedures.
  • Maintain confidential information consistent with Inotiv corporate policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in the use of common lab instrumentation including pH meters, analytical and standard balances, stir plates, homogenizers, sonicators, water baths, freezers and refrigerators.
  • Effective organizational, written and oral communication skills and the ability to multi-task and work independently in a matrixed team organization under tight timelines.
  • Recognition of the importance of following all required safety procedures including the use of PPE, proper chemical storage and disposal.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and other computer-based systems.


Education and Experience

  • B.S. or B.A. degree in Biology, Life sciences, Chemistry or Science field, with 3-5 years laboratory experience strongly preferred  
  • Equivalent combination of related education and required work experience will be considered with management approval.


Physical Activity and Working Conditions

Physical Activity

  • Moderate physical activity. This position will require frequent walking, sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time, carrying, heavy lifting (max. 50 lbs), reaching while standing, gripping and twisting hand movements, finger control and other general repetitive motions (for more than four [4] hours per day).
  • Able to wear latex or nitrile gloves, dust mask or respirator, and safety glasses as required.
  • Manual dexterity to operate laboratory equipment and calculator/computer.

Working Conditions

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior office work or laboratory environment.
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include use of protective equipment.
  • The noise level is usually moderate.
  • This position will frequently be involved with radiant/electrical energy, solvents, grease, oil, irritants, acids, bases, and other hazardous chemicals, electro-mechanical hazards, flammable materials and bio-hazards. Due to exposure to hazardous biological material (which may include HIV positive specimens), immunization to Hepatitis B and/or other diseases may be a requirement.
