JOB SUMMARY 
Provide the inhouse controls and electrical expertise enabling the Facility Services department to maintain a multi-group, multi-building cGMP pharmaceutical manufacturing, laboratory, and administrative site. Additional responsibility for the maintenance of, the access to, and the development of the primary controls. Develop electrical and controls improvements and resolve issues. Provide technical support to other Facility Services teams, Engineering projects, and other departments. Comply with cGMP/GDP requirements and applicable electrical codes. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

•    Provide oversight for the campus BMS, SCADA, PCS, EMS and campus PLCs to include: 

  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, field devices, Level 1 networked windows computers and communication issues
  • Make any necessary repairs, replacements, upgrades, or retrofits
  • Design and/or install new equipment controls
  • Assist Facility Services Craftworkers and Metrologists in the execution of Preventive and Corrective work 
  • Analyze campus systems and their controls, for reliability, functionality, and potential improvements 
  • Review field equipment data and provide reports/summaries to owners, as required 
  • Provide process control expertise focusing on capacity increase, process optimization, risk mitigation, and compliance improvements
  • Install, configure, wire, and attach control devices to field panel (controllers)
  • Read, mark up, and red line specifications and prints
  • Use Insight to create graphic screens, create programs, and download to controllers, troubleshoot and correct building automation control system problems
  • Support the efforts of internal groups and external resources such as vendors, consultants, and contractors
  • Preparation of standards authoring PMs, SOPs, and conducting training for new equipment installations

•    Responsible for Corrective and Preventative maintenance work on electrical systems
•    Installs electrical circuits following applicable state and national codes
•    Look for improvement possibilities and problems resolutions on electrical systems
•    Perform technical and administrative updates to preventive maintenance plans 
•    Maintain training requirements
•    Assist other trades as required
•    Ensure all work on campus is in compliance with NEC
•    Maintain a current and detailed knowledge of cGMP
•    Participate in special projects as assigned by management 
•    Seek ways to increase operational efficiency 
•    Will have the proper training to perform various SAP functions. Training will include: Deviations, CAPAs, and Change Control and SOP revisions 
•    Provide set-up and logistical support for VIP visits and on campus corporate functions 
•    Must comply with all applicable rules and regulations of Emergent and the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry. This includes FDA regulations such as cGMP, GDP, EH&S regulations, and company regulations such as the employee handbook

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS
•    Bachelors/Associate degree in engineering/science related field or a minimum of 8 years in an electrical/controls technician role. 
•    5 years of general maintenance experience required
•    2+ years of controls experience in support of manufacturing operations
•    Strong BMS and PLC experience, including troubleshooting of software, hardware, and field devices. Experience with alarm handling desired
•    Ability to read and understand PLC control language. Allen Bradley experience desired
•    Prior cGMP experience is strongly preferred. Experience with 21 CFR part 11, Annex 11, GAMP guidelines desired. Experience with commissioning, qualification, and validation a plus 
•    Experience with HVAC systems and controls a plus
•    Must have the ability to multi-task and coordinate feedback and adapt to change within a dynamic environment 
•    Must be tenacious while maintaining integrity and self-awareness
•    Must be customer service and quality driven
•    Journeymen’s license
•    Annual Journeymen’s license renewal 
•    Tri-Annual code update
