We are currently searching for a Scientist to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC and it is onsite in Bethesda, MD.

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support the program mission to enable advanced, high quality, robust, high throughput flow cytometric analyses from all labs.
  • Assist staff to train 100+ users on an ongoing basis.
  • Support the cell sorting facility with cell sorting projects utilizing well-documented quality procedures and practices.
  • Train researcher and staff on biosafety practices and principles in the cell sorting facility.
  • Perform risk assessment evaluations on all cell sorting projects.
  • Conduct or assist in conducting research assays and analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings. Interpret findings and adapt for application to laboratory problems.
  • Work with staff on evaluating the validity of laboratory data; analyze and handle problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with established protocols, previous training, or accepted laboratory practices following well-documented practices and guidelines.
  • Work with staff to calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments, troubleshoots as required; maintain instrumentation and identify maintenance issues.
  • Update procedural manuals and methods for the cell sorting facility.
  • Analyze reports pertaining to laboratory testing or other operations. Maintain detailed logs of all work-related activities following established documentation methods.
  • Evaluate the validity of laboratory data in relation to the test system and assay procedures.
  • Recognize unexpected test discrepancies, identify scientific causes of discrepancies; analyze problems while recommending solutions; devise new methods to accurately measure samples.
  • Interface with researchers, reagent and media suppliers, reference laboratory officials, equipment sales representatives, instrument repairers, etc.
  • Work with researchers and program staff to aid presenting information to laboratory personnel in formal lectures and bench training.
  • Advise and make recommendations on laboratory data of other scientists and provide technical guidance to the biologists.
  • Participate in program presentations of data; present research results at such meetings; write and submit for publication and independent research projects.

Requirements
  • Ph.D. in immunology or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing biological research and must have expertise in cell sorting facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in the field of cell sorting biosafety and training.
