Job Details

To protect the health and safety of our employees, contractors, customers and communities, employees in the U.S. and Puerto Rico are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless an approved exemption has been granted for a medical reason, sincerely held religious belief, or an employee is otherwise exempt under applicable law.

Agilent Research Laboratories, which powers the growth of Agilent Technologies through breakthrough science and technology, has a new opening for a Research Scientist with deep expertise in physical biochemistry including kinetics, thermodynamics, enzymology, and molecular structure-function studies to solve problems related to the measurement and analysis of biological systems.  You will join an innovative, multidisciplinary team developing state-of-the-art technologies for advancing Agilent’s current and future measurement solutions and their use in life sciences and clinical research. For example, the candidate will work as part of a team to invent and develop new chemistries and reagents for advancing state of the art DNA and RNA oligonucleotide synthesis, invent and develop new methods for analytics of biomolecules, and extend and develop new technologies for using these technologies for the manipulation and measurement of biological systems.

The candidate will also participate in establishing strategic collaborations between Agilent Labs and external researchers to validate and proliferate these novel technologies, communicate progress and results to management and technical leadership, to selected external organizations, and when appropriate, to the general scientific community via presentations at scientific conferences and peer-reviewed publications.

Agilent Research Labs looks beyond the evolution of current products and platforms to create the technologies that will underlie tomorrow's breakthroughs, enabling Agilent customers to answer questions at the leading edge across the continuum of opportunities spanning life science research to clinical and applied chemical markets.   Our horizon is broad, encompassing synergies across Agilent, paving the way for existing businesses and seeding new businesses to create competitive differentiation and compelling value for current and future customers. To accomplish these goals, we attract and retain top technical talent, collaborate with global research leaders in academia, government, and industry, and promote a culture of innovation and teamwork across our highly multi-disciplinary staff of life scientists, physical scientists, computer scientists and engineers.

  • PhD in Chemistry, Biology, or Physics plus four years postdoctoral experience, or equivalent, with an emphasis on physical chemistry or biophysics.
  • Demonstrated success innovating and developing new or emerging measurement solutions to advance mechanistic understanding of how biological systems function as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and/or patents.
  • Experience constructing simple computer models of complex phenomena, such as reaction kinetics or synthetic pathways, and testing such models against experimental data to seek the simplest quantitative model that captures the phenomena of interest.
  • Deep expertise in kinetics and thermodynamics
  • Strong foundation in statistics and quantitative analysis
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and using computational tools to perform research.
  • Demonstrated initiative and pursuit of successful collaborative research projects with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills including with expert and inter-disciplinary audiences.
