Mammoth is seeking a Director with expertise in protein-nucleic acid biochemistry to join its Discovery team. Discovery is responsible for developing novel CRISPR-associated (Cas) tools for therapeutic genome editing. The Director of Biochemistry will lead Discovery’s efforts to characterize Cas tool components and thus play a central role in the tool development pipeline. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of achievement investigating enzyme mechanisms with structural and functional approaches and will bring a passion for leading teams in fast-paced environments.
  • Supervise technical operations for structure determination, modeling, functional characterization and reagent production for proteins and protein-nucleic acid complexes
  • Guide protein engineering campaigns with structure-based design recommendations
  • Manage internal technical team and external CROs
  • Collaborate with project management to allocate resources towards cross-functional CRISPR-tool development projects.

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related discipline
  • 6 years biotechnology industry experience
  • 3 years of technical management experience, managing Scientist- and Research Associate-level contributors 

  • 2 years experience in CRISPR tool development
  • Demonstrated success (ie. publications, conference presentations) solving high-resolution structures for protein-nucleic acid complexes using cryo-EM or xray crystallography
  • Demonstrated success (ie. publications, conference presentations) characterizing nucleic-acid-modifying proteins with catalytic and binding assays
  • Ability to manage external relationships with CROs
  • Computer and scripting skills (Benchling, Geneious, JMP, SQL, R, python)
