Position Title: Associate Scientist, Cell Signaling/Biochem

Reports to: Scientist, Immuno-Oncology

Company Background:

Century Therapeutics is developing novel allogeneic living cell products for oncology that overcome the limitations of current cell therapies. Century's genetically-engineered, universal iPSC-derived immune effector cell products are designed to specifically target hematologic and solid tumor cancers. Our commitment to developing off-the-shelf cell therapies will expand patient access and provide an unparalleled opportunity to advance the course of cancer care.

Century's foundational technology is built on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) that have unlimited self-renewing capacity. This enables complex cellular engineering to produce controlled cell banks of modified cells that can be expanded and differentiated into desired immune effector cells, which can supply vast amounts of allogeneic, homogeneous therapeutic products. This platform differentiates Century from other approaches that utilize non-renewable donor-derived cells.

Role:

Century Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist with a background in cell signaling, molecular biology and protein purification to join the Immunology team at our research site in Philadelphia, PA. This candidate will be responsible for helping to assess cell signaling pathways of novel chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) immune cells. They will work collaboratively with scientists in Immunology and iPSC Biology to improve the efficacy of Century's allogeneic CAR therapies. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, self-motivated individual with a strong immune-assay background and a genuine passion for cutting-edge cell therapy research.

Responsibilities:
  • Optimize protein assays (Western Blots, ELISA, MSD) to assess intracellular and extracellular protein detection.
  • Perform and analyze flow cytometry experiments to understand cell phenotype and functionality of novel CAR cell lines.
  • Analyze and present data to small and large group meetings.
  • Accurately record and document results in a timely, detailed, and organized manner.
  • Maintain accurate electronic laboratory documentation.
  • Participation in an interactive, team-oriented culture.

Qualifications:

Essential
  • Bachelor's in science in biology, chemistry, biophysics, bioengineering or related discipline.
  • Previous hands-on experience with SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, and immunoprecipitation.
  • Strong and broad expertise in mammalian cell culture and immune cell assays.
  • Experience with protein isolation and quantification techniques (Western Blot, ELISA, MSD).
  • Exceptional detail-orientation and organizational skills.
  • An enthusiasm and motivation to collaborate, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a team environment, while having a proven track record of completing projects independently when provided with high-level direction.
  • Willingness to learn new laboratory techniques with a desire to learn about immunology and the field of iPSC-derived CAR immune cells.

Preferred
  • Expertise with flow cytometry, including phosphoprotein signaling and calcium flux assays.
  • Proficient in cell imaging techniques including confocal microscopy, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Experience with lentivirus production, titration, and transduction.
  • Experience with the development and assessment of cellular therapies, preferably CAR T and CAR NK.
