In this vital role, as the Global Executive Director, Companion Diagnostics (CDx), will lead and support the commercial success of companion diagnostic and biomarker advancement at Amgen. Amgen has a diverse and rapidly advancing oncology portfolio. This is a critical role within the Global Commercial Organization across both the oncology and general medicine TAs. In addition, it will also support the Therapeutic Area Governance (TAG) leadership teams to ensure the ultimate success of programs across therapeutic areas. Reporting to the VP Oncology, but with a dotted line to the VP, Gen Med, the candidate will ensure timely, high-quality in-market companion diagnostics solutions to enable drug success.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the Joint Commercialization Committees (JCC) as they are established across programs, TAs and with our CDx partners

  • Serve as co-lead of the CDx steering committee to ensure critical decisions are in line with future commercial launch needs

  • Provide commercial diagnostic expertise to the Therapeutic Area Governance Committee (TAG)

  • Lead CDX team to1) Embed global CDx capabilities geographically and cross-functionally 2) Lead and execute global CDx launch excellence across therapeutic areas3) Lead early program commercial decisions that are the basis for future CDx success 4) Help to further define the best working model for CDx and build a world class capability in partnership with all functions across all stages of development

  • Build the global CDx knowledge and ensure efficient transfer of knowledge not only within the CDx teams but across GMAC, PT leads and other functional areas of the organization

  • Partner with PT leads and TA Heads to ensure appropriate resourcing at key milestones

  • Lead and continue to build execution excellence through the CDx archetype model via region lead alignment

  • Lead commercialization contract decisions with our CDx partner companies to align responsibilities and launch execution partnerships

  • Lead the team to serve as the subject matter experts of commercial diagnostic knowledge through active engagement with external partners, pathology partnerships, professional laboratory, and medical organizations

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree and 6 years of Commercial drug development and Companion Diagnostics (CDx) experience OR

  • Masters degree and 10 years of Commercial drug development and Companion Diagnostics (CDx) experience OR

  • Bachelors degree and 12 years of Commercial drug development and Companion Diagnostics (CDx) experience AND

  • 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8+ years of biotech/pharmaceutical and/or diagnostic experience

  • Launch experience of oncology diagnostics including anatomical or molecular diagnostic products

  • Experience with a broad base of external customers, including patients, payers, and HCPs (especially pathologists)

  • Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate commercial and competitive implications of complex technical/clinical/regulatory data

  • Interpersonal skills, negotiation skills, active listening, and relationship management skills

  • Interface effectively with all levels, including senior management

  • Ability to work confidently in a cross-functional team and build effective internal partnerships

  • Leadership skills, including the ability to influence teams with diverse backgrounds

  • Competitive mindset, including the ability to champion ideas, make decisions, and goal oriented focus and results driven

  • Verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly and effectively present information

  • Business judgment and emotional intelligence

  • Commercial acumen and strategic thinking, analytical and scientific literacy, cross-functional collaboration skills, the ability to operate globally and locally, influencing skills, and an understanding of both diagnostic and drug development/commercialization

  • Ability to influence others while fostering an environment of high performance and fairness

  • Demonstrates creativity and foresight in anticipating and solving complex project issues

  • Expected travel (domestic and international) is 25%
