Position Summary:

An exciting opportunity is available for a biostatistician with experience in machine learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science to join a small but growing biostatistics group focused on cancer clinical trials and related translational research. The Senior Biostatistician will be a member of the Biostatistics department, designing and developing scalable solutions using ML/AI tools and will develop machine learning algorithms and predictive models that utilize these tools to guide design and analysis of translational medicine components within cancer clinical trials. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Biostatistics team at CRAB and our collaborators at the Fred Hutch to prepare analyses and reports for publications, presentations and other communications with focus on high-dimensional data, including medical images such as radiomics, Computer Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with diverse teams of investigators to develop, validate and implement AI/ML algorithms for use in software applications and maintain up-to-date knowledge of current technological standards and practices. Finally, the Senior Biostatistician will also provide programming support for analysis and reporting projects related to CRAB and SWOG clinical trials, identifying and suggesting strategies to optimize and improve software capabilities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art statistical machine learning (ML) and AI methods with focus on high-dimensional and medical imaging data such as Radiomics, CT and MRI applied to clinical trials
  • Provides statistical consultation with collaborating staff and external clients
  • Performs or oversees quality control procedures on software development, confirming accuracy of programs and applications from creation through implementation
  • Translates general high-level project requests into detailed tasks and ensures the completion of these tasks
  • Develops creative data visualizations
  • Assists in the development of new grants and contracts
  • Contributes to statistical methods research
  • Delivers oral presentations of study results
  • Collaborates with other statisticians in the team to communicate study results (in the form of tables, figures, and written summaries) and interpret the results in collaboration with scientific collaborators to prepare abstracts, presentations and manuscripts
  • Represents CRAB at scientific meetings
  • Adopts and adheres to organization security policy and procedures for accessing and managing analytical datasets and data files
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or a related field
  • Experience with high-dimensional data, preferably medical imaging data
  • Minimum of two years relevant experience
  • Sound knowledge of applied statistics
  • Proficient in statistical computing in R
  • Proficient with multiple AI/ML tools such as PyTorch, Spark, TensorFlow or scikit-learn
  • Proficient in developing, training, and evaluating different machine learning models
  • Experience in visualization

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with Oracle or a similar relational database product
  • Biostatistical consulting experience
  • Publication record reflecting statistical support of clinical investigations
  • Proficient in statistical computing in SAS

Experience in oncology trials

  • Proficient in industry standards, medical terminology and clinical trial methodologies
  • Spanish language skills a plus

This is a full-time position and is Exempt from state and federal overtime regulations.

Employment authorization is required.

Travel/relocation expenses will not be provided for this position.
