Position Summary:

The Director of Applications Development will provide high-level expertise and leadership in Web application development, data architecture, and design of data solutions as well as significant experience developing and implementing both common solutions and custom software systems. The successful candidate will direct a variety of diverse and competing requests from multiple business areas. This position will direct all technology-related software product initiatives and is responsible for building and managing our current and future Web application platforms. This includes oversight of the programming, testing, and project management teams. The Director will interface with leaders in clinical oncology research from teams at academic institutions and pharmaceutical industries. This position reports to the Chief Technology Officer.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs the effective delivery of all customized CRAB and SWOG software to support staff, end-users, and customers
  • Oversees the full lifecycle of all software development including analysis, design, programming, testing, and technical support
  • Oversees delivery of clinical trial builds created in the Medidata Rave EDC system
  • Manages Applications Development leadership staff
  • In coordination with compliance staff, ensures software meets applicable regulatory standards such as 21 CFR Part 11
  • Develops project resource estimates for managing department resources
  • Contributes to organization wide strategic planning
  • Works with business stakeholders to define new application development needs, recommends approaches and improvements to achieve goals
  • Influences strategic decisions for technology and software products
  • Reports project status summaries to CRAB leadership
  • Presents systems and technologies to potential clients and customers
  • Monitors the design and programming of web-based database applications utilizing the Microsoft .NET development environment and customized, third-party applications such as Medidata Rave
  • Performs other duties to provide quality program direction and contributes to the mission, goals, and values of CRAB

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related degree that demonstrates strong analytical skills and applied science (Math, Statistics, Biology etc.)

· Minimum 10 years of experience working in a technical role with developing web applications. Relevant education can be substituted for experience

· Minimum 5 years of experience in a technical leadership position

· Excellent interpersonal skills; must be able to effectively relate to personnel at all levels of the organization

· Advanced knowledge of the full software development lifecycle including requirements gathering, development, quality assurance, and technical support

· Experience mentoring staff in technical positions

· Demonstrated ability in leading the development of solutions for third party and custom web applications

· Experience working with databases such as Oracle or MS SQL Server

· Knowledge of different software methodologies and approaches to solving different types of software problems

· Demonstrated ability to prioritize/manage concurrent projects of varying priorities while meeting deadlines and departmental objectives

  • Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills
  • Displays strong attention to detail and be experienced in maintaining and documenting software development procedures

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Medidata Rave or other EDC systems
  • .NET web development, HTML, XML, and JavaScript
  • 21 CFR Part 11 Compliance
  • Experience working with clinical trial data
  • Experience working in a non-profit, public, or academic organization
  • Spanish language skills a plus

This is a full-time position and is Exempt from state and federal overtime regulations.
