Job Details

The Network Engineer, reporting into the Cloud & Infrastructure Operations team, performs production support on WAN, LAN, WLAN, and related technologies such as firewalls. Regionally based, in this role you will work in facilities focused on commercial manufacturing or R&D – and this work will consist of network segmentation and vlans, inter-site routing, cloud-based infrastructure (AWS) connectivity, and DNS. Other assignments will include rolling out new networks by working with carriers and low voltage contractors, configuring remote access and out of band systems, preparing MDFs and IDFs, modifying existing networks to accept scientific equipment, participating in rigorous change management of system, maintenance such as patching and upgrades, and creating and keeping documentation updated.

Job Responsibilities

Core Network: be familiar with core switching and routing for each site in your jurisdiction, performing configuration or maintenance as needed including firmware upgrades.

LAN / WLAN: own the LAN and WLAN configuration for sites, including the segmentation and vlans required in a plant (GMP facility) or R&D lab and guest wireless access.

MDF / IDF Preparation & Maintenance: prepare the physical MDF and IDF(s) for readiness by installing top of rack switching, terminating fiber and copper where required, and ensuring there is enough UPS capacity for key equipment; install and configure out of band equipment.

OT & Lab Systems: prepare air-gapped and highly segmented networks for specialized equipment.

Troubleshooting: address outages and network performance issues as needed; proactively add equipment to central monitoring and address repeat issues.

Carrier Coordination: each site has several carriers, understand the local market, bring N+1 connectivity to a site and configure failover; regular monitor and test for failover. Familiarity with repeater systems for 4G/5G, and 5G modems where required.

Qualifications:

  • Past experience supporting production networks from WAN to LAN.

  • Excellent knowledge of network security constructs – authentication, firewalls, segmentation, and vlans.

  • Experience in manufacturing and OT systems / IoT systems.

  • Past experience configuring and using network monitoring tools

  • Certification and training from at least two major network equipment providers: HP/Aruba, Cisco/Miraki, Fortigate, Palo Alto.

  • Advanced Cisco certifications preferred
