Role: Executive Regional Sales Director

We are seeking an Executive Regional Sales Director (2nd line manager) to lead and manage Regional Directors across the United States. Geographic responsibilities are national and span the United States. The function will focus on achieving Veklury (Remdesivir) sales goals within healthcare systems/hospital affiliated healthcare providers.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Proven to be successful in all respects of selling, i.e. technical knowledge, sales techniques, interpreting/analyzing data, and has an in-depth understanding of the medical field and biopharmaceutical industry.
  • The ability to share the business trajectory and vision with the organization, in a manner that inspires commitment.
  • Can analyze, understand, and present scientific/technical details, by bringing to bear a thorough understanding of pharmaceutical marketing and sales regulations, guidelines, and policies.
  • Proven ability to drive systemic adoption of products in the hospital setting through strong institutional account management skills, as well as accessing and influencing key protocol/formulary decision makers.
  • A consistent record of developing highly successful regional /account management leaders, inspiring and driving achievement of goals.
  • Has demonstrated a penchant for sales and account management effectiveness, through robust analysis, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to multi-task, and work within cross-functional teams. Exemplifies operational excellence for administrative tasks.
  • Able to lead product and disease state discussions during internal and external-facing meetings.
  • Can proactively share knowledge of new product or disease state developments, including COVID-19 market dynamics, Veklury clinical profile, financial impact of Veklury usage on healthcare system, etc.


Specific job responsibilities:
  • At the executive-level, leads and directs Regional Sales Directors, ensuring that they are well-versed on product knowledge, sales skills, market conditions, strategy and tactics of both institutional account management and HCP sales, corporate policies and procedures, and business planning models.
  • Establishes consistency in leadership/management principles and practices across the sales organization. Develops strategies and tools to support managers with leadership challenges.
  • Plays a key strategic role, partnering with Marketing, Medical Affairs, Managed Markets, Commercial Operations, Human Resources, Legal, Business Conduct, Medical Information, and outside vendors, to ensure product commercialization and organizational growth (at all stages).
  • Plans, forecasts, and oversees operating budgets, while actively monitoring expenses.
  • Effectively implements Brand Plan of Action strategies and tactics, to achieve corporate sales objectives.
  • Monitors and assesses competitive sales activity in the biopharmaceutical market and makes recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Partners with Executive Director of Sales and Marketing and the Analytics team to develop, implement, and manage the individual sales IC goals for each region and territory
  • Coaches the regional directors and their teams to challenge the heathcare systems/ healthcare providers in the continuum of care to consider the best treatment options for patients (e.g. considering alternative treatment or seek second opinion).
  • Ensures all department personnel are fully informed of, and in compliance with Gilead commercial compliance policy, all applicable federal and state laws and guidance relating to product promotion and information dissemination including, but not limited to, the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, the Food and Drug Administration's implementing regulations, the Federal Anti-Kickback Statute, the False Claims Act, PhRMA, Corporate Code of Business Conduct and the Office of the Inspector General's Compliance Program Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturers.


Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Extensive launch experience as a sales/account manager leader
  • Enterprise leadership experience driving and inspiring success.
  • Ability to leverage novel technologies and platforms to access customers and drive business
  • Account Management experience is preferred
  • Typical candidates will possess a BA or BS degree, preferably in life sciences or business administration, or equivalent.
  • 16+ years of validated commercial leadership experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry (preferably in specialty pharmaceuticals) - including 5 years of pharmaceutical sales executive management experience required. Or 14 years' experience with an MA/MS in commercial leadership experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
