GRAIL is looking for a Staff Infrastructure Engineer, to serve as the technical lead overseeing GRAIL’s IT on prem physical infrastructure for the company spanning network, compute and storage for general corporate use and lab sample processing. 

This role will also involve engaging with multi-functional team members across the company, spanning all the GRAIL locations with an emphasis on our large scale sample processing facility in Durham, NC, and serving as the technical point of contact leading an engagement with an external team of infrastructure engineers managing GRAIL’s physical infrastructure.
This position will be located in Durham, NC.
You Will:
  • Be the primary GRAIL person engaging with an external infrastructure team managing GRAIL’s on prem physical IT infrastructure supporting GRAIL’s networking, compute cluster and storage needs.
  • Develop and execute a long-term technical roadmap for GRAIL’s IT infrastructure to deliver to the needs of the company, particularly as it scales high volume sample processing, achieving defined targets for throughput, capacity, reliability (fault-tolerance, uptime) and capability.
  • Drive a strategy for infrastructure monitoring, alerting and reporting both for technical staff and executive leadership that provides clear visibility real time, retrospectively, and during troubleshooting of infrastructure health vis-a-viz defined targets.
  • Drive IT infrastructure budget planning and expense management in collaboration with key team members and Finance FP&A partners.
  • Engage with IT Security, Compliance and SaaS Admin team, GRAIL QA, and Lab teams to ensure SOPs are defined and followed so we are fully compliant with all applicable quality frameworks.

Your Background Should Include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar technical field or equivalent. Advanced technical degree preferred.
  • Experience and Certifications in technologies like: Palo Alto Firewalls, Juniper Switches, Pure Storage, EMC Isilon, VMWare, AWS, Security, Infrastructure as Code, Automation.
  • 8+ years infrastructure implementation and application administration.
  • 4+ years of infrastructure architect experience including a detailed understanding of CRM core, integrated application architecture.
  • Excellent written and verbal listening and communication skills
