The Scientist, Biomaterials & Drug Delivery is responsible, under general direction, for developing innovative biomaterials for next generation medical aesthetics products via science and engineering of polymers (design, synthesis, purification, modification, fabrication, and characterization) and formulation prototype and process development (i.e. hydrogels), with an aim of achieving targeted bulk and surface properties for the intended product safety and efficacy profiles.   

Responsibilities include: 

Scientific Execution:

  • Actively involved in designing and planning of experimental studies for the development of novel biomaterials
  • Executes experimental studies for the synthesis, formulation, fabrication, and characterization of novel biomaterials and prototypes
  • Accumulates, interprets, and concludes on obtained experimental data, and makes appropriate technical recommendations for next steps to drive the project move forward
  • Collaborates with global cross functional R&D partners on joint experimental studies to achieve common project goals. 
  • Scientific Communication:

  • Participates, and presents in project team meetings to propose project activities, review completed tasks, and technical progress as needed
  • Writes, reviews and issues technical reports, technical memoranda, and other documents for internal and external distribution.
  • Generates ROI’s and works closely with corporate patent counsel in generating IP documentation.
  • Remains as an internal technical consultant through the entire product development life cycle. 
  • External Scientific Interaction:

  • Searches, reviews, and evaluates current literatures and relevant technology landscape to help maintain and extend internal technical competence.
  • Attends and participates in scientific meetings as company’s representative to gain knowledge about new products or technologies pertinent to corporate business interest.
  • Communicates and recommends new biomaterial, product, and technology related ideas to supervisor and other research managers to maintain and enhance company’s position in the marketplace.

  • Ph.D., M.S. or B.S.-level education in Biomaterials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields.
  • 0+ (Ph.D.) 3+(M.S.), or 5+(B.S.) years of applicable experience including industrial experience is required.
  • Work experience involving biomaterials for medical device and drug delivery systems is preferred.
