The Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S) Specialist I will provide health and safety support to the Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing (PDM) and Research groups at the Gilead, Foster City campus. The individual will help implement improvements to lab safety programs, assist with industrial hygiene activities, and update our training materials and intranet information.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:
  • Administer the Laboratory Inspection Program.
  • Aid in the Chemical Segregation program.
  • Assist in occupational health and/or safety risk assessments.
  • Assist in creating and updating factsheets for lab safety programs.
  • Support efforts in implementing unique health/safety management.
  • Provide EH&S support for PDM and Research laboratory moves.
  • Perform Injury and Illness investigations, root cause analysis, data trending and laboratory safety and compliance inspections.
  • Provide general and program specific EH&S training.
  • Serve on the Emergency Response Team requiring periodic 24 hour on-call rotation.
  • Provide general support related to laboratory safety.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customer groups.
  • Support EH&S data management programs.
  • Support regular communications updates with customers.


Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required:
  • 2+ years of relevant experience and a BS Degree.
  • General understanding of relevant occupational health, safety and environmental regulations
  • General understanding of federal, state, and local regulations and standards governing etiologic agents
  • Strong focus on customer service
  • Ability to multi-task, effectively prioritize and deliver work products in a fast-pace environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills effective for a diverse audience including senior management
  • Effective in working in a matrix organization
  • Energetic, organized, and skilled with today's technology.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work thrive in a team-based environment.
  • Independent worker and self-starter.
