The Worldwide Infrastructure & Operations - Infrastructure Services organization provides the full range of infrastructure services to Gilead's business users globally. This team aims to provide infrastructure services that are reliable, accessible, feature-rich, and easy to use for all users. From the business standpoint, we aim to build a highly effective team that provides services that are cost-effective, proactively managed, and financially responsible and transparent to our stakeholders.

The Sr. Director of Global Cloud DevOps responsible for providing people, technology and business leadership to the Global IT organization. This role is responsible for all aspect of Cloud DevOps, to establish & direct a team to solve interesting cloud engineering challenges for a global cloud deployment, including but not limited to manageability, scalability and availability.

Responsibilities of the Sr. Director-Global Cloud DevOps include:
  • Serve in a leadership position to promote and bring on the Cloud culture and technologies along with other Infrastructure Leaders
  • Work closely with the executive leadership and their peers across the entire IT organization and other key business decision-makers in identifying and implementing cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the business.
  • Responsible for identifying and designing current and future technical solutions that will drive the productivity of our cloud solutions and teams that use them.
  • Develop and maintain the cloud team's strategic road map, ensuring that information technology capabilities continually support the overall business's goals and objectives.
  • Transform the team to a matured and agile organization around concepts such as Cloud, DevOps, Six-Sigma, and Agile
  • Transform the management of the global Cloud DevOps to improve reliability, availability, agility and cost efficiency
  • Champion the Cloud Infrastructure/DevOps needs of customers, business teams, stakeholders throughout the development process, ensuring that what is delivered meets the original goals and objectives.
  • Planning Cloud infrastructure/DevOps for new applications and services
  • Transform the Global Cloud DevOps Team from Cloud Operations to DevOps teams by Code
  • Managing and maintaining the Cloud Infrastructure, as well as automate the Operational monitoring for the Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Lead the Cloud DevOps aspects of Disaster Recovery for Gilead
  • Lead Managed Service Providers to deliver services in key operations domains
  • Managing the metrics of Cloud DevOps including reliability, service delivery, projects, value
  • Technical delivery of projects and initiatives for Worldwide Infrastructure & Operations, Information Security, Manufacturing and other departments globally
  • Take accountability to drive service interruption root causes to full resolution, working closely with the Problem Management Team
  • Serve in leadership role in resolving service impacting issues
  • Handle rapidly developing problems and issues with products and platforms in an effective and efficient manner address business needs.
  • Design, create, and deliver presentations-translate technical language into business language as needed to bridge the gap between business and technology professionals engaged in the full product value stream
  • Provide timely updates to Executive Leadership to ensure status and feedback are shared timely with internal and external stakeholders

Basic Qualifications:
  • 12+ years of relevant experience and BS in Computer Science or related fields, or equivalent experience OR 10+ years of relevant experience, with a M.S. in a related field.
  • 10+ years experience as a Cloud Operations/DevOps organization leader
  • 5+ years of experience managing Managed Service Providers
  • 5+ years of experience creating, managing and working operating metrics
  • People management of ten or more people
  • Budget management of people, vendors, contracts at least $5M in size
  • Management of Managed Service Providers for key operational areas
  • Previous hands-on experience with Cloud Infrastructure/DevOps technology
  • Experience with management of globally dispersed technical delivery team
  • Innovative thinkers bearing a Growth Mindset
  • Experience leading Disaster Recovery build-up, maintenance and operations
  • Leadership abilities to mobilize team members and achieve significant initiatives
  • Experience with commanding and managing an incident bridge
  • In depth knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of Cloud infrastructure

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Solid background in building roadmaps, create and execute on a strategic vision
  • Hands on experience with the following technologies preferred: AWS, Azure
  • Hands-on experience with Information Technology recovery from a disaster scenario
  • Strong product management skills
  • Outstanding communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills, and can collaborate at all levels
  • Excellent listening, negotiation and presentation abilities
