Fate Therapeutics is currently seeking an Associate Director/Director of Materials Management & Logistics to manage and provide oversight of inbound receipts, materials/warehouse management, and outbound logistical operations that support Fate’s manufacturing and R&D facilities at multiple locations. This position will work closely with cross functional teams from Technical Operations and R&D to understand their needs and priorities.

The successful candidate is an excellent communicator and team builder with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, extensive knowledge of inventory management, lean methodologies, cold chain management, and start-up operations. This position reports to the Executive Director of Supply Chain and is located at our corporate headquarters in San Diego, CA.
  • Create a strong team environment that demonstrates timely and effective communication, provides exceptional services, and is passionate about maintaining accurate and timely data.
  • Establish goals and develop plans to achieve these goals for the Materials Management & Logistics organization.
  • Manage materials located at internal and external warehouses, inbound & outbound distribution/transportation, and import/export logistics.
  • Manage the kitting system to support the manufacturing schedule.
  • Oversight of material and product receiving and shipping operations.
  • Oversight of final product packaging and shipping operations that include order placement with couriers/3PLs, tracking and resolving shipment delays to ensure on-time deliveries.
  • Drives continuous process improvements for supply movements, warehouse optimization, kitting, and Kanban processes.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs and perform analytics to identify areas for improvements.
  • Develop and implement inventory/warehouse management modules for ERP system.
  • Support the development of a Phase III and commercial supply chain network.
  • Ensure procedures and the Team are inspection and audit ready.
  • Act as subject matter expert for Materials Management & Logistics during an audit.
  • Monitor and control expenditures to ensure efficient use of company resources.
  • Forecast resourcing needs (people and equipment) to ensure the Team is prepared to meet departmental and Company goals.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop staff to succeed in a fast-paced and high-growth company.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Science or other relevant discipline.
  • 10+ years Supply Chain related experience in Pharma/Biotech industries or regulated. industry with 5 years of people management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management processes and ERP experiences.
  • Cold chain experiences (2-8C, -20C, -80C and below -150C).
  • Strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration to drive change.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to meet tight timelines, multi-task, and prioritize workload.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications and able to quickly learn new applications.
  • APICS, CPIM, or CIRM certification preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • 100% on-site work at corporate headquarters in San Diego, CA
  • Evening and weekend work as necessary
