About the role

Sana Biotechnology is growing, and we are hiring new team members who believe in the potential of engineered cells as medicines, who want to challenge status quo, and who lead with the desire to work on novel ideas. As a Senior Director, Program Management (Data Platform), you will report to the VP of Translational Technologies to provide leadership in strategic planning and execution of Sana's data platform. You will ensure agreement on Sana's data strategy and guide achievement of the company goals through excellence in project management of cross-functional teams and implement high-visibility data projects across the company. You will work with the technologies and business leads across Sana to plan and lead complex projects across multiple teams, including the oversight of multiple project plans and essential metrics.

What you'll do

  • Lead the launch and project management of a cross-functional core team and subteams to support Sana's overall vision and implementation for data strategy including agreement of goals and timelines across core and subteams
  • Lead program management efforts including leading face-to-face meetings, development of agendas, creation of meeting minutes, tracking of action items, and scheduling of follow-up meetings
  • Identify potential risks, resource constraints, and conflicts that could affect project timelines; work with the Translational Technologies, IT, Technical Operations, and Development teams to develop appropriate solutions
  • Facilitate cross-functional planning of activities across departments and program teams to align dependencies, schedules, budgets and delivery commitments
  • Provide high-quality project management services to ensure team and project success by being strategic in project planning, team management and process management
  • Understand the data platform technologies, business process and applications to remove roadblocks
  • Help prepare presentations for executive, board and functional leaders and teams
  • Engage important data platform partners across all levels
  • Help manage team interactions and ensure that input from appropriate team members is obtained to support informed decision-making
  • Work with leaders to build data standards around scientific data governance and ontologies
  • Promote the application of FAIR principles
  • Lead a small team for data platform related operations

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's in life science, Information Science, or Computer Science discipline plus 12 years or equivalent combination of education and work experience, and 5 years of experience in a project management and/or leadership experience supporting/leading cross-functional teams in a scientific environment
  • Skills to be effective in a matrixed organization with geographically dispersed teams
  • Preclinical, early stage CMC (process development) and IND filing experience
  • Experience managing multiple projects or programs concurrently
  • Experience working collaboratively at all levels in matrix environment to build the relationships required to accomplish organizational goals
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to succinctly and accurately communicate to various levels of management, employees and external business partners
  • Experience thinking and acting from an overall "best for the business" perspective and balancing priorities across several functional departments
  • Experience planning and leading strategic programs

What will separate you from the crowd

  • Cell or Gene therapy experience
  • PMP certification
  • Experience working with engineering teams that implement data platforms, data pipelines, data infrastructure or machine learning in biotech or pharma
  • Experience with implementation of a data lake and integration of non-GxP and GxP data
