Position Summary

Working within the Company’s Gene Therapy Research Team, the Associate / Senior Associate Scientist will be integral to discovering and developing the next generation of gene therapies centered on treating unmet needs due to metabolic diseases. Successful candidates will contribute towards Fractyl’s pipeline programs with a primary focus on designing, developing, and testing viral technologies for the treatment of diabetes. With a desire to overcome obstacles, the Associate / Senior Associate Scientist will drive the program forward and ensure timely and effective accomplishment of program goals in close collaboration with the Gene Therapy team and external CROs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Independently plan, design, optimize, and execute molecular and cellular assays to characterize AAV-based gene therapies targeting the digestive systemin vitro and in vivo
  • Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses for all experimental results
  • Perform all activities in compliance with applicable regulations, Fractyl’s policies and guidelines, including, but not limited to, timely documentation of activities and maintaining all required applicable training.
  • Bring a “can do” spirit to work and deliver on other responsibilities as assigned

Education or Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology or related disciplines

Professional Work Experience

  • Experience in biotech and/or pharmaceutical industries preferred but not required
  • Bachelors with 4+ years or masters with 2+ years of industry experience
  • Prior vocational experience in related fields a plus (i.e. Co-Ops, Internships, Fellowships, etc.)

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience with the design, validation, and running of molecular assays to detect gene expression, viral titer, and viral copy number analysis such as qPCR, ddPCR, ELISAs, and DNA/RNA extraction
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, plasmid transfection, and virus transduction
  • Familiarity with a variety of molecular and cellular biology techniques, with the ability to learn, troubleshoot, and execute for the goals of the team
  • Experience or willingness to work with small and large animal models as needed to drive forward program goals

Travel

  • Local travel in the Greater Boston metropolitan area for CRO engagement and management may be required
