Scientific Liaison, Bacterial Vaccine and Technology
The Bacterial Vaccine and Technology (BV&T) department at Pfizer, which reports into the Bacterial Vaccines and Hospital Chief Scientific Officer is responsible for leading the discovery and scientific leadership for the bacterial vaccines and anti-infective products within the Pfizer vaccine Research and Development Unit (VRDU). The department is comprised of a number of functional groups including include molecular biology, antibody technology, in vivo biology, bioinformatics, molecular assays and surveillance. These groups work to support all stages of Vaccine Research and Development as well as early anti-infective development. We are looking for a motivated individual to join the department where their focus will be to manage all external research collaborations to ensure that appropriate project milestones are met. The incumbent will be responsible to align the activities to the VRDU goals, working across the VRDU and partner lines.
The incumbent will have responsibilities to help to align activities in both the research and clinical development groups. The candidate will serve as a point of contact for research collaboration associated compliance across all aspects of BV&T including clinical research, pre-clinical discovery, bacterial and viral groups. To ensure alignment between the VRDU and Pfizer Business Units (BUs) the candidate will serve as a liaison between the VRDU and associated BU groups to coordinate strategy and ensure knowledge sharing for candidate vaccines and those in late stage clinical development. The incumbent will also contribute to the BV&T departmental strategy, authoring and contributing to communications, documents and literature reviews associated with the strategic activities of the department.
The role requires strong background in infectious disease research and vaccine development. The role also requires experience and established track record in working with multifunctional teams outside of their reporting structure, presenting research and strategy as well as report writing, responding to regulatory questions, and publishing research findings.
Partners with scientific teams and legal department to ensure that all external collaborations and contracts meet appropriate milestones.
Works closely with BVTs CSO, to support and execute departmental priorities with tight deadlines.
Supports the development of presentations, memos, review of scientific manuscripts, and overall departmental organization.
Works closely with departmental administrator to support CSOs schedule and overall scheduling.
Develops and implements team building activities for the department.
Leads scientific meetings.
Creates, leads and delivers continuous improvement of the Research process and improves productivity within each phase.
Provides research expertise to inform Pfizer’s vaccine development strategy.
Accountable to area CSOs
Doctoral level degree or equivalent with at least 8 years additional relevant research experience.
Proven track record of project advancement and delivery.
Highly organized and experience working with cross functional teams.
Experience in vaccines, anti-infective small molecule and biologic therapeutic modalities.
Strong working knowledge of medical practice, diseases and biology relevant to infectious diseases.
Record of delivery of discipline-relevant data in support of research and development programs.
Demonstrated innovation and the ability to apply knowledge, techniques and skills.
Strong scientific writer that can manage scientific and regulatory documents.
