POSITION SUMMARY: 

Day One Biopharmaceuticals is seeking an exceptional individual and scientist to support translational research activities across our portfolio of targeted therapeutics for children and adults with cancer.  The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive translational research across pipeline programs. This individual will be a key member of the Translational Research group within our Research and Development organization and help us achieve the forward (pre-clinical to clinical) and back (clinical to pre-clinical) translational science that is critical to successful pediatric and adult oncology drug development.

This position has the potential to be fully remote. Occasional travel may be required for in person meetings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to translational research in oncology, including designing and executing strategies for patient selection and biomarker development across all pipeline programs
  • Drive in vitro and in vivo pharmacology studies from design to completion to support hypothesis-driven patient stratification strategies, identify and validate novel biomarkers, and guide potential combination strategies in both pediatric and adult oncology programs
  • Develop translational research plans for biomarker selection and validation, and successfully implement key biomarkers into clinical trials in collaboration with the Clinical Development group for both pediatric and adult indications
  • Select, establish, and manage relationships with external CROs and academic collaborators for translational research
  • Support development of companion diagnostic assays in collaboration with clinical, diagnostic, and regulatory groups
  • Actively participate in internal and external scientific meetings through presentations and critically evaluate both internal results and emerging scientific literature


QUALIFICATIONS

  •       PhD in cell biology, cancer biology, pharmacology, or a related scientific field
  •      5+ years of drug development in biopharmaceutical industry (nice to have, not need to have)
  •      Demonstrated solid scientific background and understanding of small molecule oncology drug development, patient indication and combination strategies
  •      Experience in developing pharmacodynamic, predictive and exploratory biomarkers for oncology and non oncology drug development programs 
  •      Experience and demonstrated skills in translating mechanistic biology, in vitro and in vivo pharmacology studies into clinical biomarker, patient stratification, and combination strategies
  •      Experience with designing and executing in vivo studies in oncology and non oncology settings is highly desirable
  •      Experience managing CROs and consultants; experience working in partnership with academic collaborators
  •      Ability to analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate data and its impact on program strategy
  •      Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, and ability to work as an effective team member in highly collaborative, fast-paced start-up biotech work environment
  •      Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities
  •      Excellent organization skills and ability to manage projects to meet key deliverables
  •      Ability to work independently and interact effectively in cross-functional collaborative teams
