JOB SUMMARY 

This role will support the efficient and effective operation of the Accounting Department, ensuring the financial records are maintained in a timely and accurate manner.  This position is responsible for certain month-end close activities, full-cycle accounts payable and payroll functions. The ideal candidate will have a strong general accounting foundation, be a self-starter, with good communication skills and a detail-oriented personality with the ability to thrive in a dynamic business environment.  

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

    Responsible for recording of journal entries and preparation of account reconciliations for assigned accounts. Completes all monthly accounting tasks timely and accurately, in accordance with the month-end close checklist. Perform analysis of payroll related accounts and explain variances from budget.  Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures related to purchases and expense reimbursements. Obtain and maintain a thorough knowledge of company policies related to payroll, accounts payable, expense reimbursement and purchasing. Process invoices, ensures accurate matching of receipt documents against purchase orders and invoices, proper account coding and signature authority is met for non-PO items. Processes employee expense reports for reimbursement, ensuring proper receipt support, compliance with the travel and expense policy, and applicable account coding. Weekly processing of check runs. Corresponds with vendors and employees and responds to inquiries relating to vendor invoices and expense reports. Coordinate, prepare and process full-cycle, multi-state bimonthly payroll. Review and reconcile periodic payroll tax filings. Lead the annual 1099 reporting process, including maintaining the ongoing completeness and accuracy of W-9 files. Other responsibilities as assigned. 

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

    Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required with a minimum of three years relevant experience in accounts payable and payroll functions.  Must be able to understand job duties and responsibilities, have the necessary skills/knowledge, and be willing and able to continue learning and growing within the field. Must be skilled at managing a significant workload and obtaining successful results, taking on additional responsibility and managing priorities as needed. Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization. Strong competency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas). Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion at all times. Must be detailed oriented with strong organizational skills.  Experience with QuickBooks and ERP implementation a plus. Familiar with online payroll systems. Experience in a high-growth, fast paced environment is a plus. Comfortable performing research and analysis.
